NVIDIA Unleaks GTA5 PC Comment - New Trailers Released

Two new trailers are available for Grand Theft Auto V, revealing the gubernatorial campaigns for two candidates. There's a clip showing off the Jock Cranley Campaign and another showing the Sue Murry Campaign. Also, Forbes has a statement from NVIDIA attempting to put the horse back in the barn after spilling some beans about the PC edition of Grand Theft Auto V. They claim this "was made with the intent of expressing enthusiasm for the games industry in general," and that "NVIDIA does not have information on any possible PC version release of Grand Theft Auto or its availability." This may very well be true, but it certainly sounds like full-on spin. Here's the full statement:

“Please note, during our Thursday’s earnings call, our investor relations team provided a list of important games that gamers are looking forward to on PC this fall, and included Grand Theft Auto V on that list. This statement was made with the intent of expressing enthusiasm for the games industry in general, and was not intended to represent specific knowledge possessed by NVIDIA. NVIDIA does not have information on any possible PC version release of Grand Theft Auto or its availability. We deeply regret the error.”

Im feeling Riggs nailed it right on the head with his insightful comment. Its coming (in some form) for the PC but Rockstar wants us all to buy the console versions first, so obviously Nvidia is scrambling to push the geenie into the bottle after a probably mild slap on the wrist.

I'll ask you what I asked Riggs, what's your theory behind why they want "everyone to buy it on the console, first?"

Ummm, so they can make more money?

GTA4 had mandatory installation on the PS3, which reduced pop-in compared to 360 (pre-optional install option).

UGH! PLEASE! Everyone that has the ps3 GTA4 version, go put your disc in, grab a motorcycle, go to FPS mode (on the bike, not behind it), go to what appears to be a clear street/road, and do a wheelie. Look at the sky for even 1-2 seconds, and when you come down, the road will be filled with traffic.

Oh, that's what you're talking about. All GTAs do that. They render traffic the moment you see it. If some dipshit in a car hits you and you want to get vengeance, don't let him out of your sight for a second, or he'll be gone. The only cars with slightly more persistence are ones that get the "panic" state attached to them.

But other than that, circle around on the 360 and traffic will repopulate as it goes. That's just a design decision to keep the memory from overflowing. I'm pretty sure that'll be the same for GTA5, yeah.

I thought you were talking about it literally stuttering to put the traffic in place.

I don't think PC and 360 do that when you do a wheelie, I think line of site is persistant....cause I know if I turn around for 2 seconds then turn around, cars will be right there that I can jack, but I don't think the wheelie thing happens on pc or 360. SO I will try and report back in a few hours.

hahahahh You guys check the website? Little link at the bottoom of the page "The LifeInvader Tablet" OMG! Did he just put his......

Trying to decide if I want this on PS3 or 360....I think the 360 handles these games better. I was playing GTA4 on the ps3, and I did a wheelie on a moto, and when I came back down (on an empty street) there were no less than 30 cars that popped in while I did a 2 second wheelie....that didn't happen to me on the 360.....

Yeah. GTA4 got streamed from the disc though, and this will require a mandatory harddisk install.

Not true. When I installed it last month on the ps3, it took a good 15 minutes to "install" before i could play....

Would you have been sure of the same thing for the 360/PS3 and San Andreas? The Xbox version of GTA:SA was released only a few months before the 360 was, after all, and look what happened there: Rockstar moved on from SA and took years to release a next-gen GTA. (It was available via backwards compatibility, I guess, but I remember it running kind of like shit.)

I'm not saying it ain't gonna happen, just that it's a big possibility that it won't.

But you're talking about completely different consoles running on completely different architectures (between all of them), so the task of porting it over was probably fairly humongous.

In this case it'd be taking the (upcoming) PC version and porting it to slightly crappier PCs. I doubt it'll take them long. Maybe March is a bit soon, but we'll see a "next-gen" one right alongside a PC one.

Fucking Rockstar and NVidia trolls. I've never bought a GTA on console and won't be starting. So if they want loads of PC gamer cash, they better cough up the PC game.

Depends... if the fucking assholes from Microsoft are offering them millions for a console exclusive to undermine PC gaming even further then Rockstar/Take 2 would certainly not hesitate one second to help fuck the PC in the ass even deeper.

It's kind of depressing to think about GTA5 on the consoles after playing GTA4 on the PC with max settings. I can no longer play my PS3 version of GTA4 because it looks and runs like an entirely different game from my computer.

I guess in about a year or two we will finally get the real version of GTA5.

For those wondering why GTAV is not coming to PS4/XB1 anytime soon, consider that they started development of this game years ago, before those consoles were even close to being finalized. Plus, if your game has the potential to sell 15 million copies on consoles, why would you release it on consoles that have a 3 million-ish install base at maximum by year's end? That's not even "bad business" - that's just stupid.

Simply put, a console at launch is at its weakest and most fragile state: the install base has to build from zero, and game publishers don't want to waste money putting games on it just trying to build the install base. After all, that's not their responsibility, it's the responsibility of the people who made the console. Even the console manufacturers want to hold back their biggest franchises, which is why there is no Halo, Gears, Uncharted, or Gran Turismo coming to the new consoles anytime soon. Instead, we get franchises that are celebrated but aren't stellar sellers - like inFAMOUS, Killzone, and Forza. Console manufacturers have to look like they're coming out strong while actually doing the exact opposite.

I definitely do wonder, though, why they didn't wait a few months and make it a Xbone or PS4 exclusive.

Pure market share. 360 and PS3 combines is a ~150 million potential customers. GTA4 sold like 15 million in the first two months, IIRC? And you gotta figure Rockstar hopes to beat that number. They're sure putting the money into the game to beat it, anyway.

They wait a few months to make it next-gen exclusive, and they're looking at, what? Five million people at most? Sony and MS won't be able to put more product into the channels than that. So even if you assume that every single next-gen console customer buys a copy, they're missing out on 10 million sales.

Neither MS or Sony is going to pony up 600 million dollars to make it worth it for Rockstar. (Well, actually, MS might. In fact, I'm still surprised they haven't done so.)

I'm sure we'll see a next-gen version come out before March 2014.

I'll ask you what I asked Riggs, what's your theory behind why they want "everyone to buy it on the console, first?"

I'm guessing it's got nothing to do with Rockstar and everything to do with MS/Sony. I definitely do wonder, though, why they didn't wait a few months and make it a Xbone or PS4 exclusive. You figure either Sony or MS would be willing to dump a TON of money on them to make that happen. GTA5 would sell consoles without a doubt. I don't really see any other initial titles that would even remotely tempt me to buy a new console. GTA5 might (though I wouldn't in the end).

As for PC vs the consoles though, that's hard. No royalties for the PC release, but also of course, a lot fewer sales.

Also, if somehow both MS and Sony were pushing for a no PC release, I'd guess that would end up on legal thin ice. Paying for an exclusive is one thing, but two companies paying to exclude a third is something else entirely.

Meh, I'm sure their lawyers got it all sorted out. Maybe Rockstar just doesn't want to bother with the PC yet. Maybe that's their excuse, anyways.

edit: Ah... of course, what I didn't think of was the 360/PS3 release, and then six months later an "enhanced" Xbone/PS4 release. Double dip. That's where the cash is at. Maybe that's when a PC version will come out as well, since they'll probably be about on par capability wise at that point.

Oh, I'm not going to fall for that one. Retracting the statement that we all know was based on inside information that they weren't suppose to leak but did anyway.

What I don't get is why there's no "next gen" release for this game, it's not like if you can't afford a new system you would be swayed from buying it.
