Ultra Street Fighter IV Dropping GFWL

Capcom's Haunts tweets that the upcoming Ultra Street Fighter IV will be dropping Microsoft's unpopular Games for Windows LIVE, and is turning to Valve and Steam for distribution: "It's coming to Steam, yes, we'll be transitioning from GFWL to Steam." Haunts also tweets that the PC edition should be released "around the same time" as the console editions. Thanks The Escapist.

GamesForWindowsLive (GFWL) works for me, it does have its quirks. Such as failed auto-patching, port issues, no updates, no Windows8 support. No in-game text support, you have to type in the GFWL client to the intended co-op playmate. So it definitely needs improvements. Re-implementing a pay model might be the solution to its death spiral.

Die? No, not at all.

Batman: Origins will also be a Steamworks game.

With all this fighting game news lately, it must be a sign that ArkSys is going to look at the PC and we'll get a nice PC version of BlazBlue: Chronophantasma, right?

...right? Someone lie to me that this is sound logic.

Now that I think of it Capcom is one of the last major devs that were still using GFWL. That just leaves Rocksteady and Namco I think? Even the Microsoft published Age of Empires 2 HD uses steamworks. The long nightmare might finally be over.

Ding dong the witch is dead.....

Edit: There's no mention anywhere of Arkham Origins using GFWL. That might be another one down.

I may have to buy this game based solely on this.

Was absolutely expecting Ultra to still use GFWL. Very pleased to hear Capcom is making the change off it.

If you weren't stupid enough to ink some agreement back in the dark ages, why would anyone use GFWL anyway?

Woot! Die GFMFWL!

Wasn't Capcom about the last holdout for that useless shit-ass client?

Drop it like a red-headed stepchild. The only thing GFWL does well is beef up a useless console gamerscore.

They said you could buy the Ultra version as an addon if you own either SSF4 or SSF4:AE for $14.99. I wonder if that option will be available on PC or just on consoles because of this drop of GFWL.

Thought so when the trailer for this showed the Steam logo instead of the GFWL one.

Capcom dropping GFWL is huge since I believe they were the biggest publishers to exclusively use GFLW on all its games.
