The only people coming out ahead in FTP games are casuals who play for free, aka freeloaders. Average or hardcore players who don't want to be restricted on content end up paying more than a normal monthly fee on average, to make up the difference. Sure, FTP is great...if you're a casual noob who just wants to check the game out, play occasionally, etc. However, the players that actually keep the game afloat are getting screwed. I predict the FTP trend actually reverses itself in the next decade as more and more people catch on to this fad.
Yep. Even a game with basically 10 times more subs than any other game with a sub (or had one), that $15 x millions per month isn't enough still. The good news is most FTP games I've played I average maybe $15 spent. I'm happy for the mega rich for once and them dropping $1000's, keep it com'in. I think nothing of your maxed out characters, I just run past you like the rest, I don't see you or really anyone. I play a mmo like a single/small coop game. Yep that is what the genre has evolved to for many. Just doing the content like a single/coop rpg, running past others as if they are cardboard.
JohnBirshire wrote on Aug 2, 2013, 15:27:And has the move towards ever more DLC (where people pay 2 or 3 times what the original game cost, for silly things, many of which isn't even additional content) reversed itself yet? I think it will take significantly more than a decade for a move away from FTP to happen.

... Maybe they learnt something with D3 auction house?
This.
They have learnt that players shouldn't feel the need to buy gear for real money that would take you literally years to farm.
