Out of the Blue

We're still struggling to clear the backyard of some overgrowth and a big pile of tree debris I created while pruning and trimming. We're not the biggest gardeners to start with, and the weather alternating between rain and sweltering heat is not helping move things along. I think I've previously mentioned my fascination with a scene in the Anthony Hopkins movie The World's Fastest Indian where he clears his overgrown lawn with fire. I'm pretty sure if I thought I could safely and legally get away with it, I would be out there with a torch right now.

That partly underwater hotel sounds FUN! Not the first though. Maybe one day Rapture will really exist! And maybe too Columbia!

Time to get a woodchipper! If anyone's seen Tucker and Dale vs Evil, you know that nothing could go wrong with one.

Hah! Such a good flick! Everyone needs to see that at least once.

One of the best things we found for keeping up with the limbs and dead stalks that accumulate in the yard is a chiminea, or if you prefer chimenea. Ours is cast iron, but it's great to burn up the detritus, and sit around in the evening watching it burn. As an added bit of safety, I installed a ring of rocks around the base, (it is sitting on the ground in the back yard) and always have the garden hose at the ready during the burn-cycle.

I'm surprised we need a study to tell us what the 'tramp stamp' spot for a tattoo means.

My favourite garden torching film is from Muriel's wedding, where the mum burns the lawn as she's fed up with the grass never being cut. I supposed you could call this method of gardening Muriel's weeding...

Does anyone have any experience using a 21:9 ratio monitor like this one for gaming? PCGamer was down on it, but some Amazon reviews I read said it was awesome.

no experience, but just logically, it would take triple the horsepower to run the same game. also as previously said, pretty sure its native resolution isn't widely supported if at all. but hey, if you got money to burn, go for it. pretty sure you already have standard monitors laying around. neat toy to show off in any case.

Blue,

It's 2:10pm and 106F at 31% humidity. What do you define as "sweltering"?

Can't really say. For most people the 1.8(aka 16:9) ratio is the golden one for your eyes. The only way to tell if it's worth it, is to see it in action.

It is getting less expensive to process hard to get oil, but it's still not cheap. The recession hit just as the peak did, so demand stagnated, otherwise prices would have stayed high. At the same time people got hit with the shock of $5/gal gasoline (among other reasons), which forced people to wake up and smell the coffee, which is why there is more support and acceptance of renewables than ever before.

Still, there are some things only oil can provide, like jet fuel. So the sooner we replace its use in things like cars, the better.

I can't imagine it being great: I don't ever recall seeing that resolution and/or aspect ratio available from a game's rez dropdown.

If it was offered I guess it could be cool for a flight/space sim.

Gee that hotel is neato keen.

Well if God made the weed then it should be kosher to enjoy it, Rabbi.

Used to be Peak Oil was a real fear because once all the light sweet crude was gone it was simply too expensive to process shale. And the reality is there's more oil in the earth than we can ever use it was always just an issue of the cost of accessing and processing it. Well, that's all changing and quickly. It's getting more (cost) efficient all the time. So anyone that thinks we're heading for some green energy paradise without significant political will - and let's face it, most people can't even be bothered to even vote anymore, much less engage in the political process - it ain't gonna' happen. In hedging bets on whether the future will be utopian or dystopian, my money is solidly on the latter.

And yeah, they're called tramp stamps for a reason.

And I don't recall Boba Fett wearing spurs. Anyone catch that before?

Lol, I only learned recently that Disney employees refer to it as Mousewitz because it's such a horrible place to work. Apparently they're consistently rated as one of the worst companies to work for.
