Satellite Reign Kickstarter

The Kickstarter is now underway for the recently teased (and leaked) Satellite Reign, a project from developer 5 Lives Studios that is indeed an homage to Syndicate Wars, described as: "A real-time, class-based strategy game, set in an open world cyberpunk city, from the creator of Syndicate Wars." Here's what they plan to do if they raise the 350,000 they seek:

Satellite Reign is a real-time, class-based strategy game. You control a team of four agents, each with distinct and unique abilities, collectively battling for control of a fully simulated, living cyberpunk city.

The game world is designed to facilitate emergent gameplay, giving you the tools and freedom to play how you want to play, so you can create strategies and scenarios that not even we had anticipated!

Customise your team with the strength to destroy your enemies head-on, or hack into their facilities to manipulate their infrastructure without them ever knowing you were even there.

Will you take down your enemies with brute-force? Covert espionage and infiltration? Or will you use propaganda to influence the citizens of the city and overthrow the controlling powers?

Satellite Reign will be released on Windows, Mac OS and Linux.

Wish they could use Amazon like 90% of the other Kickstarters. I realize it has to do with the currency, I just don't want to give my credit card info out to more places. I'll grab it when they release.
Not just currency. Has to do with they may not be able to open a US bank account (requirement of US based kickstarter that uses amazon for payments). There's different requirements for this kickstarter since its that division of KS is based in UK.

In this case he's based in Australia. I imagine if someone wanted to pay his flight to US to open account, then pay the 3rd party to manage the US specific stuff, he would have run it on the US kickstarter site.

In the Intro video blurb they said "an completely ****unscripted**** dynamic open world"

I know KS is about hope and vision and all that, but that's bullshit. Any dynamic element is still scripted. It is just emergent based on dynamic rules. But scripted all the same.

An "unscripted open world" is nothing but an empty dull sandbox

Great name for a game maker: Mike Diskett.

Already 15% funded less than one day. These guys will make funding easily. Chalk up another win for nostalgia-based kickstarters.

Has a nice Bladerunner vibe going. I just hope they make all the citizens flee in panic once the shooting starts. I loved that in the original.

It does look really, really cool. However, I am very skeptical that they can make a game of this kind for half a million bucks...

If they can, though... I mean, it sounds fantastic.

That was my thought too. Seems pretty low too me. I'm fine with real-time though, as long as I can pause and give orders.

Much as I liked Syndicate I've never liked real-time for games likes these. And Syndicate Wars was no great shakes.

Real time? Sigh.

Looks really cool. You should check those rose-tinted spectacles. Both Syndicate and Syndicate Wars were real time games, that could be paused during heavy action. Glasses2
