More tacked on multiplayer to "justify" online requirements and DLC rape is coming.

The problem the gaming industry will have is, if consumers don't want to be fed their crap, they're not going to buy. The Xbox One preorders made that pretty clear. So if the industry wants to force online, they can try, we'll go play first party Nintendo titles instead.

CliffyB is right about one thing: More tacked on multiplayer to "justify" online requirements and DLC rape is coming. If they can't get their money by killing used game sales, they'll find it somewhere else.

I've been saying for years that these companies will not just suddenly decide to fire three quarters of their employees, downsize, and start making more reasonably budgeted games. They are going to clamp down and squeeze us for every last fucking drop to cover the ballooning cost of game development. You and I may not pay up, but most of John Q. Fucktards out there will.

Eventually the bottom will fall out, but until that day you can expect things to get worse, not better, because long after you and I have stopped buying in to the Triple-A circlejerk, a lot of other people will still be enabling these companies.

If you don't like where gaming is heading, stop giving your money to the people who are taking it in that direction.

I think the preorder numbers made it very clear, it wasn't just a minority "internet whining" as Blizinski put it, rather it was a huge number of customers actually willing to put their money where their convictions are. And a victory for consumer rights. Long live the first sale doctrine.

On the Beleszinski front, I thought Jim Sterling put it best:

Used games and 'AAA' games are incompatible? Good!

You cannot have game and marketing budgets this high while also having used and rental games existing. The numbers do NOT work people.

How does the movie industry do it then? If the numbers aren't working YOU are doing it wrong. And it doesn't cost me $60 to watch a movie or buy it on disc.

Interesting you make that analogy.

Perhaps there will be an adjustment, but Lucas and his vision... off.

I wonder what Cliff thinks or thought about Derek Smart.

It is as if Cliff is against the entire Internet.

Also, unlike the mindless bashing with no insights, Locati's blog was pretty well thought out and informative.

I think CliffyB is right, but it's semantics.

Microsoft clearly thought Sony was on board with this. Sony was not. I think Microsoft was surprised. I'd guess publishers may have been, too, because there's no way only Microsoft was doing this and no publisher employee kind of nudged them with Sony's plans.

Of course, Sony not doing this led to internet riots, and internet riots led to low preorders, and low preorders led to the change.

Edit - I didn't scroll down in the article, so I didn't think he had actually substantiated his claim, I thought he just said "Sony made them change." I'm not vouching for any of his "proof."

If you're worried about used game sales, then only sell your game as a digital download.

Cliffy B is wrong again. If he can't make the numbers work, get out of the business. Other companies can make the numbers work just fine.

Former Xbox director: To save Microsoft, Ballmer and 10s of thousands of others must go

Locati admits she doesn’t think Microsoft will take her advice. But she hopes the upcoming restructuring will bring big changes.

Uh... After that little article, probably the first change, unfortunately, is that MS will fire her husband. (After Ballmer throws a chair at him)
