No, you're wrong sorry. It's just a day one delta patch.

Yep, I love this...

edit: Marked it for two minutes twenty seconds but it didn't take on this video. Skip to the Major Nelson tap dancing part...

"Hello,

We have good news! One of your pre-ordered items is now eligible for release date delivery and has been upgraded at no additional charge. Your new delivery estimate is:

"Xbox One Console - Day One Edition"
Estimated arrival date: November 27, 2013

Sincerely,

Customer Service Department

Rumor has it Sony is pushing their release date up. Let you know when I get the second e-mail from Amazon what it is.

As far as my User Name it's been my Online name from the mid-nineties before the world went damn near 100% Orwellian. So at this point if you are afraid somebody is monitoring your online activities you've been under a rock for a decade and a half. It's not a matter of "are they" monitoring us online it's a matter of "how much are they" and who.

Back when the second Gulf War (not any official governments title) started I played a lot of Battlefield with a clan. That version of BF had three armies. My clan had the Arabs (the fictional Middle Eastern Coalition aka the MEC) so while we were kicking the crap out of the other two armies we would smack talk them by saying stupid stuff like, "die infidels" and "jihad". Some of the clan leaders worried our game conversations would be flagged due to our use of those keywords. I'm sure they were flagged but as far as I know none of us were ever taken in for questioning.

The point? Don't sweat the shit you have no control of. There are far more things in life you have control of that you should be worried about. If I get the One I can bypass all their features by simply leaving it unplugged. Or if we like the voice controls for powering on and controlling our TV and accessing our content... well, then I can just place a cover over the camera. If I were worried somebody was watching. By the way if you have a laptop with a webcam you should be more worried about that. Not saying the same thing won't happen with the One but it's far less likely.

Just my two cents...

I actually don't doubt that the Xbox One's sales will grow stronger. Too many people don't care, many want Microsoft offers. I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft would win the race in the USA.

About that Xbox Engineer on pastebin - not surprised at all. Though I wonder if he never heard about the 1 hour test versions on full games, that Sony offers for Plus subscribers. You don't even need a friend to "share" those games with you. Really revolutionary, right MS?

Yeah seems like a lot of places have started going with this date, man if they beat Xbox to release as well this would be the Year of Sony.

The best part is Major Nelson saying they can't just flip a switch to turn off the DRM and whoops, yes they can.

I doubt that's true. There's probably enormous scrambling, reworking of contracts, etc.

This is a major change and will be very difficult for them. But that serves them right.

I think he meant from a development perspective, not legal. I'm sure it's just an encrypted set of vars in the firmware: callHomeTimer = true, timeout = 86400 (seconds in a day) or whatever. A simple firmware update is all that's needed to change it. And since they seem to be doing it without publisher involvement, I'm not sure if third party devs needed to update their software to account for this or not.

I doubt, that, too.
Take a game like Forza. Its single player was written expressly to be expansive online (or however you'd describe it.)
Now they can't take for granted that single player will be able to take advantage of online content. That drastically changes how single player may operate in some scenarios. Sure, those scenarios are basically just exclusives, and probably only a handful of them, but developers can no longer create single player experiences that depend on being online. They can create optional online parts, but that will be considered wasteful for single player.

I know that people here don't really care, and we haven't been shown any reason to care yet, but I think there's actually huge opportunity to pull online stuff from other people's games into single player experiences. Wandering into towns other people created, meeting parties other people built, etc. And I'm sure this will still happen. It will just happen less.

So, while I don't think it's a big deal to the end user, if you were a developer creating a single player game that either used external content or "the power of the cloud" (whatever the hell that is) then now you need to build in case the console isn't connected. And, for many, they'll put the resources into that and just cut the cloud/external content.

Jack, you're not living up to your Paranoid moniker.

Exactly what I was thinking. What paranoid person is going to put an Xbox One in their place when it has a always listening microphone/camera?

My question is: If there was 'thousands of dollars of value' in the online DRM, isn't the Xbox One worth much less now? How could that be?

Still will never buy the SpyboxOne

You have to wonder, did they do ANY focus testing AT ALL?

Haha dude they love focus testing, you only get the answers you want to hear. That's half of Microsofts problem, their total disconnect from their customers due to stupid corporate focus testing.

As for the release date of the PS4, dates are conflicting from various retailers but late November seems more realistic than late December to me. It's also the date I've seen circled on a preorder stock cut off list at a Gamestop I popped into.

Well, that's one problem with focus testing: you can easily rig it.

The other problem is that people are often stupid. I think the two best examples of why focus testing can be bad are either The Homer, or the Henry Ford quote "if I asked people what they wanted they would have asked for a faster horse."

Focus testing is a data point, nothing more, and it's one to be heavily scrutinized.

XboxLive fans are like a bunch of blind sheep. They all flock with one another and spend money blindly. They are loyal 2 point of stupidity

There are things in life where it pays to make the dumb decision everyone else is doing. If everyone else is jumping off a bridge? No. But if everyone else is paying for online?

I'd rather the pay for shorter lobby waits. Go where the players are.

Wow - didn't think I'd see anyone saying that. My prediction: At the last minute MS will reveal the 24 Hour DRM is still in the XBone. They'll say something like, "Removing would have delayed the release and we didn't want to do that."

LoL, yeah, well several reasons for that. When I picked up my day one release of the original XBox 360 it was already going for $1500 on eBay. I have two daughters. One was the Devil telling me to sell it. The other was the Angel telling me to break it open, "let's play". I told the Devil I didn't buy this to turn a profit I bought it to have fun. We opened it. This time things are going to be different. For one I have two Day One editions of both consoles pre-ordered. The other reason I don't see a Day One exclusive that is a must buy... at least not yet.

Shocked you guys didn't get the upgrade e-mail from Amazon like I did making mine Day One Editions. Though I doubt PS4 has a Day One Edition like the XBOne.

Yes, PS4 has the Launch Edition, which is the same thing. The Launch Edition is what I have according to the Amazon email.

THE POWER OF THE CLOU....

Users may experience difficulties with the following services:

Signing in to Xbox LIVE
Xbox LIVE connectivity

Create.msdn.com
Games for Windows LIVE
Windows 8
Windows Phone
Xbox 360 Console
Xbox.com
Zune PC Client

I guess they're doing everything in Azure these days.

And this is why I'm so surprised that nobody is fucking HAMMERING Microsoft over reliability. Everything they promise is bullshit, so why should we believe that they've "learned their lessons" when it comes to console manufacturing?

I also hope Xboxone-eighty users will enjoy all those awesome games where half the stuff is done in the cloud when Microsoft inevitably forgets to renew their certificates for Azure again.

Even if they can beat MS by a week, it'll be a blowout...
