Obsidian Joins Skyforge Team

GamesIndustry International has word from a Russian Game Developer's Conference that Mail.ru announces Obsidian Entertainment will be participating in the development of Skyforge, an MMORPG announced a year ago as being in development at Allods Team. Word is this will be a collaboration, but details are scant for now. "Skyforge is very interesting and promising project. I am glad that Obsidian Entertainment is involved in working on this game," said Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart. "I am confident that the cooperation with the Allods Team will be a great experience for all of us." Here's a Russian trailer from when the game was announced.

Obviously this means money for them, because I wouldn't understand why they would want to be involved with it otherwise. It looks pretty bad.

Obsidian is synonymous with buggy code
Was. Dungeon Siege 3, boring as it was, was very stable and had a high release quality. It was the first game using Obsidians new QA tool. The days of Bugsidian are over.

Obsidian is synonymous with buggy code, not something to get excited about. I certainly would not be publishing an association with them.

The game is another f2p game that will surely be pay-to-win. Another game to avoid at all costs.

Im guessing with the writing talent Obsidian has on board and the fact that this game is being developed by a russian developer, that Obsidian will be doing most of the writing and/or voiceover work for the game. It makes sense if the russians want to market this game on the EU and US markets.

I assume that Obsidian is only helping with asset production on the game. MMO art is often outsourced to other studios due to the sheer amount required and it gives the artists at the other studios something to do during the downtime between projects.

How is it that large publishers and developers still think that WoW clone MMOs are the cash cow of the future?

Who knows. Even fucking SOE knows the WoW-clone EverQuest descendant is dead. Their next EQ game is gonna be some kind of sandbox game.

Just stop making them already!!! Seriously! It's time to let it go. There can be only one WoW! Well...until Blizzard pukes out its next crack-laced derivative.

I hope Obsidian finds time and resources to work on Fallout: Something
They'll probably make a FO4 spin-off like New Vegas.

Why wouldn't it be? They're not the publisher. They do some contracted writing and world development, and whether the game thrives or fails, Obsidian still gets paid.

Just what we need. Another generic looking fantasy mmorpg. Are they really thinking this is a good business decision?

So how big is Obsidian these days? Because they're working on quite a lot of projects at the moment.
