I just went to a conference where MS showed off a lot of stuff, including Win 8 on a touchscreen.

For presentation lecterns, Windows 8 with touch is awesome. For the desktop the interface is seriously meh. If they had just done a dual mode they would have been so much better off.

Beyond that MS has a ton of really useful tools for enterprise needs. That helps them make money hand over fist. They could probably shut down their whole OS division and still be a corporate behemoth.

I was speaking more to the unrelenting "news" articles that are proclaiming the sun has set on the PC and everything associated with it.

Microsoft is trading at 5 year high.

wtf?

Their online services are drawing lots of interest and are making them good money, Azure keeps picking up speed, the enterprise is still going strong with Office and Exchange etc. They do have their hands in a lot of pies.

Wondering if covello has ties to intel/nvidia and/or this is just strait up fraud.

The SEC financial budget has been slashed so much, the ratio of Cases to Staff is astronomical. There is virtually no chance of getting investigated (think world wide bank fraud, almost crashing world economy) much less getting prosecuted and imprisoned if guilty.

No, but you specifically mentioned the analyst, by name. Not the firm, the specific analyst.

And, as others mentioned here, his claim is perfectly rational and holds up to a sniff test.

Considering it's basically been flat since 2000, that's not much of a complement.

I'm assuming most of us with AMD stock are hoping that dominating the console chip set is going to pay off in the next year. Anything else positive is gravy.

AMD is back up today, and has recovered half of the drop of yesterday. Currently up, 6%.

So what does Government Sachs do? They buy a ton, make a ton on the way up. Put out a scare, sell it short and make a bundle down. I mean wow they can just manipulate investors like that.

Yeah it's a rigged game, imo.

It was still a good moment to make a bundle off AMD stock in a very short period. Nice cheap stock, doesn't take much to get some real return. I'm still eyeing it as to go higher in the next year.

Exactly. The stock rose because of rumors of an Intel merger and because of expected deferred earnings from AMD's hardware in the next generation of consoles. The rest of the rise is from people taking advantage of these two expectations by shorting the stock. That's not exactly "fraud," but it is a practice frowned upon.

Why would this be fraud? AMD's stock was up 82% in a month for no good reason - in fact they had just recently reported that they lost money on the quarter yet again. This doesn't seem to be anything more than him pointing out that AMD's stock was overvalued, and the stock reacting accordingly.

Well considering his shady monopolizing business practice and the fact that he is largely based in Mexico, Im thinking the connection isnt just speculation on your part....
