Out of the Blue

When the Knicks started losing playoff games to the Celtics after going up 3-0 in their series, I was able to take some comfort from history: No NBA team has ever overcome such a deficit to win a seven game playoff, and sure enough, the Celts were not able to complete their run, which certainly showed a lot of championship heart. Now I have to start rooting against history after they lost game one in their series against the Pacers, as the Knicks have never won a playoff series after losing the home opener. And the last time they lost game one at home was also against the Pacers back in 1995. At least the Pacers don't still have Reggie Miller, though I'm pretty sure the Knick killer would still be able to put up 20 points per game against the Knickerbockers at age 47, so thankfully he's decided to take it easy these days.

Heat have to beat the odds now, teams winning the first away game have won the series most of the time. That said, I don't expect the Bulls to win the series.

Well taking game 1 with no Deng, No Rose, No Hinrich is a pretty big statement. I'm guessing this is the year that Spolestra finally gets the boot and people see just what a non factor he is and always has been.

It's funny that the Heat really didn't start playing as well as they have been the past year until they started using a system in which Spoelstra basically has no say in what happens on the floor.

That said, I think the Heat suffered a bit from their week off (2 points for Lebron in the first half? 14 for Wade overall? Yeah, I'd call them a bit rusty. ) and probably were a little too cocky. I still don't give the Bulls much of a chance without Rose.

Just watched Movie 43 and yes, it was puerile, but it was funny. Particularly the one with Liev and Naomi homeschooling their kid.

Not to be confused with the movie 42 about Jackie Robinson.

I assumed it was the sequel.

How odd, because I assumed 42 was about life, the universe, and everything.

oblivion isn't a perfect film, but i agree that it's underrated. if you're a scifi fan you owe it to yourself to watch it at some point. i'm as much a tom cruise hater as the next guy, but he does his role credit in this film. he's not all fiery intensity this time; he actually finds some small measure of subtlety to give peace to his character. and the scifi visuals are, at times, breathtaking. also the soundtrack is phenomenal. certainly it's nowhere near as bad as prometheus.

Tom Cruise may be a nutty Scientologist but hes also one hell of an actor who has taken a lot of risks in his career over the years. Like Keanu Reeves who is often the butt of internet jokes, Cruise is known for being very professional on set, has taken huge pay cuts just to make films happen and given bonuses to the crews. Unless people want all their stars to be media mavericks who rarely take chances like Will Smith then we're going to have to tolerate the odd behavior from many in the arts

I would get both (and have) as the sheer amount of game in GW1 with all packs can be had for almost nothing. You won't be busy for 8 months on Skyrim.....

Oh I don't know about that, many people on my Steam list are still going strong over a year later.

Wow....and without even putting the two in competition, the Vikes have cut Kluwe. He was due over a million this year for final year of contract, I am sure he will be glad to take that money and even more on another team. Punters at his level were getting 2-3x as much, Vikes were getting a bargain.

This new kid better be damn good!

It is my understanding it has to do with his off field personality and not his play. Idiot Vikings. You can run someone over (Moss), you can rape women in stairwells at clubs (Winfield), you can have the booze cruise (half the team), and all sorts of other issues, but if you support equality or have a voice online in hot issues, they cut you. Classy Vikes......classy....

Hippie punching is a time honored tradition among rich sports team owners.

On a semi-related note. I watched "Oblivion" a few days ago. I have to say that if you can stomach Tom Cruise its a pretty good Sci-Fi flick, much better than reviews give it credit for. Sure the story's premise is not very original and the ending is somewhat typical hollywood fare but the writing, acting and cinematography are pretty top notch. I have to say I enjoyed it a lot more than Prometheus.

Gonna second this. Not sure why this has a 56% on RT. It's a solid sci fi action film, and they do a good job of answering the questions they pose. Unlike Prometheus. Cruise has still got it (although, for how much longer?)

You do have to pay attention tho. I was listening to some podcast where the folks didn't know why this or that happened, when those things were explained explicitly in the film.

I feel ya, for an eye opening experience i recommend downloaded peerblock and adding the china ip range. Its pretty amazing how many times you get tagged from china. Less now that i've moved to Germany from USA but still present. Back in the states they'd try to connect to an idle computer a few thousand times a day.

So I'm finally about done with Guild Wars 2 after 8 months, two max level characters, a Legendary weapon, completed world map and a lot of World vs World fun. One of my favorite games, I think.

I never really got into GW1 but have a couple of the titles sitting on my shelf. Are they still worth firing up or should I just go straight for Skyrim (also have it, never played it).

Thanks for advice, Blues' RPG connoisseurs!

Skyrim over GW1 any day. Nothing against GW1, which is a very good game, but it's pretty similar to GW2, so you'd probably get bored with it pretty quickly. And Skyrim is just fucking awesome with some cool mods.
