Eternal Darkness Spiritual Successor Kickstarter Tomorrow

IGN has confirmed details of plans for Precursor Games to develop Shadow of the Eternals, a "spiritual successor" to Eternal Darkness, following rumors that such a project was heading to Kickstarter. They say the crowdfunding will begin tomorrow, looking for $1.5 million to develop a 12-part episodic game, initially targeting the PC and WiiU platforms. They have word that some of the leaked details are inaccurate, but the campaign should help clear this up, and in the meantime, have a teaser trailer and an official description of the plot:
When Detective Paul Becker is called to one of the bloodiest gang massacres in Louisiana state history, only two survivors remain from a brutal conflict between two rival cults. As Becker begins his interrogations of the suspects, their combined recollections will uncover the truth about the ‘Eternals’.

Featuring an ensemble cast of heroes and villains, Shadow of the Eternals will span over 2500 years of history throughout Egypt, England, Hungary, and the United States. Players will question the perception of reality as they try to balance the mechanics of combat, magick, and sanity events to progress through the adventure.

Shadow of the Eternals will take players on a memorable journey throughout time; weaving historical fact with disturbing fiction to create an experience unlike any other.

Silicon Knights has like 5 employees left and has millions of dollars in debts owing from multiple lawsuits they've lost. That's why this is being done under "Precursor Games" instead. They're hoping by forming a new corporate entity, they can avoid all that. Denis Dyack is a horrible manager and based on some of his statements, it borderline unstable. I wouldn't touch a project he's involved in with a 10 foot pole. Assuming this gets funded, I fully expect it to be one of the epic level Kickstarter disasters that shakes people's faith in crowdfunding. I'd love to see a spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness but I don't think this can pull it off. Nintendo cracking the whip on SK is the only reason the first game even made it to market at all.

Yeah I tend to agree, no reason to back this given Dyacks history. I loved ED but people shouldn't give this guy any more money.

Do NOT give Dyack any money. If this gets popular... we need to fight it.

Am I the only one who thought Eternal Darkness was horribly overrated? For one, about 90% of the game consists of tedious backtracking and fighting the same enemies over and over again with a crappy combat system. The premise was interesting but poorly executed. Most of the player characters had little to no backstory or character development and the gameplay for each character was almost exactly the same. Also, the whole "sanity" thing was nothing more than a gimmick. Oh look, your head fell off! Whoops, just kidding, no it didn't! Hey, the walls are bleeding! That's pretty crazy, right? Oh, you've already seen bleeding walls about 500 times? Oh well, it's still pretty crazy! Such events were novel at first but quickly grew routine and predictable, effectively losing any appeal they might have had.

Pretty much the only interesting thing about Eternal Darkness was the magic system.

I don't know what's worse....the fact that just about any two bit code writer can vomit an idea onto kickstarter using a popular but forgotten franchise....or that there are numbskulls that will dump money on them.

Not worth it.

Exactly, thank you Canada my tax dollars at work. *sigh* I'm actually pro-incentivizing growth in the sector with tax breaks and grants especially in places like Saint Catharines which has been struggling for years to find a stable growth industry and corporation to revolve around and SK pretty much laid low all the growth due to Dyack's ego. Thankfully the Ontario government hasn't panicked and pulled all funding mainly due to success like Ubisoft in Toronto and Quebec's strong growth in the sector but that's millions pissed away on a shite Norse God game and an even more shite X-Men game. A freaking shame when there are more deserving companies that could have used that funding to grow and bring more jobs to the province.

1.5 mil? I really liked Eternal Darkness, but good luck with that. This is one of the crowdfunded games I'll wait for till after it's done and reviews are out before shelling out any money.

Don't see how they can pull this off considering Nintendo patented the Sanity Meter, the best part of Eternal Darkness.

I know the original game designer for Eternal Darkness, and I doubt he would ever get involved if Silicon Knights would be even remotely attached to this project since he told me he hates their guts. All the good people of SK left long ago.

That, and it sounds like Denis Dyack is involved, which is pretty much the kiss of death, based on his recent track record.
