Grand Theft Auto V Trailers

Rockstar Games now offers three trailers (NSFW) from Grand Theft Auto V, offering cinematic tidbits for three characters in the upcoming sandbox action sequel: Michael, Franklin, and Trevor, each of whom has their own flair. The clips conclude with a reminder that the console editions of the GTA5 are due on September 17th.

Break out the tape measure boys!

(I gotta agree with djLith though - those graphics are fairly weak)

Not really, though. Gotta look further than the nose though; further than the characters that draw your attention. The environments are pretty amazing. I also like how the clothes are influenced by the movement of the wearer, though Max Payne 3 had that already too.

For a sandbox like GTA, these graphics should be fine for our standards. I don't really get the critique.

99%, Jerykk? I tend to think GTA5 won't come to the PC, just like RDR.

Max Payne 3 came to the PC because they knew te majority of the fanbase were PC gamers. Not so with the GTA series.

Lets have a bet. I say it won't be released for the PC

Using Euphoria NaturalMotion on NPCs is all fine and well but it should never, ever be used on the player character. Looks great but plays like ass because animation takes priority over tight and responsive controls. The simple act of turning or jumping while running was so sluggish that I couldn't stand playing for more than a few hours.
I agree the controls could be tightened up a bit, but the sheer fun of seeing Niko's/Louise's body react to getting hit by a car (slightly is even funnier) or diving out of a speedy car is priceless.

But yes, the actual turn radius and balance on some occasions was frustrating

2004 called, they want their graphics back.

You don't know what you are talking about.

There's a city's worth of rendering (yes, I'm aware they don't render the entire city at once, but even so), of traffic calculations, NPCs as well the graphics to generate.

The fact it does all that, and looks as good as it does is astonishing. But then, what do I know? I've only got an MSc in Computer Science.

Have you seen any of the one handed controllers (probably a stupid question)? I used to work with a one handed gamer and I found some controllers for him. I imagine that a 20 button mouse and some foot pedals would be ideal for you though.

I have a 'Access Controller' from eDimensional, but it's frustrating, inaccurate and awkward. Razer mice are hand (haha) down the best 'access' gaming peripheral. Mouse aiming/clicking with 7-18 buttons for your thumb to control movement/other features. Haven't touched my PS3 since I got one.

LMAO! Hand down!

I figured they would be frustrating and awkward. :/ I'm glad that you have a way that works for you. I don't know what I would do without gaming. It's been a part of my life for like 30 years.

Not sure where some of the hate is coming from. GTA has always managed to be fun in my eyes.

San Andreas is my favourite, and I'm glad to see a similar character to CJ make an appearance.
Actually, I'll be enjoying all 3 storylines.

I'll be bro-ing it up, BRO!

PS. Why are some of you expecting gameplay trailers for a GTA game? Come on, now...

I think it's safe to assume that the criticism comes from people who genuinely don't like GTA. The last one I enjoyed was Vice City. San Andreas was okay but overstayed its welcome. GTA4 was downright painful to play.

I didn't buy SA or GTA4 until they hit the bargain bin and unless Rockstar genuinely evolves the gameplay in GTA5, I won't be picking it up for more than $10 either.

99% sure this is coming to PC, given that every other GTA (except for the handheld Chinatown one) has come to PC. The PC version will probably be announced a few months after the console versions are released, just like with GTA4.

That said, I'm not really that interested. GTA is stale. There have been many open-world action games since GTA3 and most of them have evolved the genre in various ways. Rockstar's focus seems to be on making their games as cinematic as possible, usually at the expense of gameplay. GTA4's horribly sluggish controls are a testament to that.

The writing on the GTA series is still miles beyond just about everything else in gaming, though.

That's arguable but even if we accept that as true, writing alone does not make a good game. If you're going to make a game, you should take advantage of the medium. Storytelling should be woven into the gameplay experience and not confined to cutscenes between missions.

It feels like Rockstar wants to be a movie studio rather than a game developer these days and it shows in how stale their games have become.

Having played RDR I completely disagree with you there. From the mundane to the really fucking awesome, read dead has you do it as gameplay.

I would agree though, with GTA it's much more limited.

Ex. Niko Bellic walks into law firm, cutscene, everything gets handled ( removing any hitman like gameplay possibility) and you just shoot the guy and escape through a linear escape route.

Already ordered it.

2004 called, they want their graphics back.

It's safe to say say this for all current generation console games coming out now (save for lets say, The Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls) since we've been spoiled by graphics on PC. Me being spoiled with 1440p (2560x1440) and max everything makes me really want 4K gaming more, and anything 720p or lower looks like shite to me now. The current generation just has been around for far too long now, and looks as GTA5 seems to be PS3/360's swan song.

It doesnt look as good as on the PC but Farcry3 sure as hell looks a whole lot better then this on consoles and its open world as well.

Now that Microsoft have started the ball rolling on the release of the next Xbox, we can expect Sony to follow (in the interests of hardware superiority). I would prefer this to release on PS3, as I intend to buy one once I find a good deal.
