Saints Row IV Commander in Chief Edition for Preorders

Saints Row IV is not due until August, but Deep Silver announces a Saints Row IV Commander in Chief Edition, a special version of the "open-world and-other-PR-words" sequel that's offered as an incentive for preordering. Here's word on the bonuses this entails, including an Uncle Sam outfit in case you don't like being noticed, oddly, available in all territories:

Larkspur, Calif., - April 22, 2013 – All hail POTUS as Deep Silver announces today that the Commander in Chief Edition for the upcoming Saints Row IV™ is available as a free upgrade to pre-orders at major freedom-retailers across North America. In this ball-busting, open-world and-other-PR-words installment in the Saints Row franchise, developer Volition continues the story of the Third Street Saints by elevating their status to the highest level – the leaders of the free world.

But the leaders of the free world are under attack from an alien invasion in the land of the free, and it’s up to you and your gang to save the world, Saints-style. To help you combat the alien terrorists you will encounter, the Commander in Chief Edition is a free upgrade for all pre-orders at participating retailers and comes fully loaded with a Screaming Eagle that fires rockets out of its talons and can invoke the “Sonic Scream” attack, leaving your enemies dazed, confused and likely scarred for life.

Additionally, if you’re going to save the world you should look good while doing it, which is why the Commander in Chief gives you a limited-edition Uncle Sam uniform, made in the US of good ‘ol A (apple pie not included.) And since you need the best [read: most ridiculously overpowered weapons ever conceived] fighting tools available, Volition and Deep Silver are giving you a stimulus package, “'Merica”, full of incredibly astonishing firepower: flamethrowers, ultra-powered dub step guns and rocket launchers are yours for the taking. Crown thy good with brotherhood, indeed.

The Commander in Chief Edition is priced at $59.99 (console) and $49.99 (PC).

The Commander in Chief Edition will be available globally.

huh? 49.99 for a game that is the same game with different models and SHOULD HAVE been an addon or DLC?

Nope. First time I will be waiting for a Saints Row game to go bargain bin or 50% off.....this is insane. I am disappointed.

It isn't the same game with different models that should have been an add-on.
That's a complete disservice. A part of the game was planned to be DLC. It was then scrapped and the idea was reused. All the work was scrapped. And it was just incorporated into a new, bigger game.

It would be like calling SR2 the same game as SR1 with different models.

I quite enjoyed SR3, but overall, I think that SR2 was a better game since there were more memorable characters, memorable cutscenes and more activities to do. A really abysmal PC port though.

Yes, SR4 does look a bit like an expansion pack, but that might be a good thing in this case since the SR3 PC port was pretty good and the engine was solid. The lack of variety and things to do compared to SR2 was pretty apparent though so I'm hoping SR4 just adds in a ton of content. I don't think that anyone who enjoyed SR3 is really asking for a dramatic change anyway, just more stuff in general which is what SR4 seems to be doing.

SR, I think, had the most memorable characters. SR2 to a lesser degree.
The giant guy was the only one memorable in SR3. Shaundi was never particularly exciting, and Pierce? Half the jokes in SR2 were about how useless a character Pierce was. Though the reoccurring chess jokes made me happy.

I loved SR3. I think its charm was that it was batshit insane.

In retrospect, it's kind of sad that it stands out to me as being a great game because all it was trying to do was do its best to be fun. I don't know why more developers don't aim for that with their games, but they don't.

I thought SR2 struck a better balance of nuts to fun while retaining a decent campaign and a lot of side activities and enterable buildings, etc. That said SR3 was still a pretty good game and I'll definitely pick it up. I do think that the dick/fart humor will wear thin with the audience and I'm not sure where is to go after "you're the president and you're fighting aliens" except down.

SR2 was the peak.
SR4, like SR2, builds upon an existing game/engine.

I agree that the plot is... odd. But the early videos of SR3 looked pretty miserable and too dick/farty. I didn't feel the game was as much that as the trailers implied.
But it had its flaws regardless. Still loved it.

I don't see any clear signs of this being a disaster. I mean, yeah, the concept went from expansion to full game, but they're saying it was 100% redone, right down to all the voicework being thrown out. And yeah, there's a publisher change, but Volition was hopefully somewhat removed from that.

It's a wait-and-see, but SR3 looked terrible from the previews and I loved it. Can't imagine this being any less good. I'd wager it's actually much better.

I actually really enjoy the driving mechanics of SR3.

And I had the GOTY edition, so I had all the overpowered crap for free. Honestly, the jet was the only thing I used. Most of the rest was literally crap. The jet, though, was a nice touch. I didn't use it in missions, you kind of can't, but it made getting around easier.
Oh, wait, and there was a tank. Yeah, also not really viable for missions, but made defending turf easy. That was something I found a hassle, anyway, so no loss.

What made a difference was getting to level 50 and being able to buy the permanent god mode. Not sure what they were thinking there, I guess "by this point everyone will be sick of the game and just want to finish stuff to be a completionist."

So far I'm 5/5 on pre-ordering kick ass titles.
Shogun 2
Witcher 2
X-com EU
Bioshock Infinite
Skyrim

Has more to do with picking good titles by good developers I think.

This is a sequel my dear from one of the BEST developers in all of Game Development - Volition. They don't fuck around, they make gems.

Besides, who can say no to day-before-release preorders at Green Man Gaming for a guaranteed 25% off the price

Prophet I felt the same way, except I loved the cluster of a storyline. It made sense in the whole old fashion way of story is just there to get you to have fun.
Munching On: Archeage, SAO Vita, Tales of Xallia 1/2.

3 was better than I expected. The story is a COMPLETE mess, nothing makes sense and the driving mechanics are idiotic, but the gameplay itself is pretty fun. I didn't like how they did the DLC though. It automatically added super-powerful items that you could use at any time for free... The whole progression and becoming powerful thing was gone.

Haha. Well I bought SR3 with everything in sale last year, so I'll wait for this one to hit on sale I think too especially with all the DLC that they pumped out for the last one.
