Out of the Blue

Looking forward to the return of Mad Men tonight, as Sunday continues to offer an embarrassment of riches in terms of good television. We'll have a good 60s-style sit-down dinner to accompany it, as we picked up a rack of lamb at the big-box store, which I have been tasked with preparing. I am going traditional with this one, and will actually eschew the man-stove in favor of the oven.

So the earliest fire pits were probably used to cook rack of brontosaurus!

On an unrelated note, that Calvin and Hobbes thing is really well done. If I saw it as a preview in a theater, I'd be nodding my head and saying "Yeah, that's one I gotta see".

Wouldn't the man-stove be the traditional way of cooking a rack of lamb? Seeing as it was originally cooked over open fire pits and all.

Earliest ovens date back like 30,000bc....

And cooking in fire pits dates back 100s of thousands of years ago. I think we can agree that fire pits existed before ovens.

I made a superb quiche yesterday - been forever since I've made one. And making a brie, cranberry, and ham braided puff pastry for tonight. I was considering doing a beef wellington but I'm definitely down with some gooey cheese tonight. Looking forward to the new Vikings episode this evening too.
