So much fuss about... what? a console? that wants to be online, always?

Fine. Not joining the rant parade. Never owned a console, never will.

Fun thread, guys.

Francis' line of reasoning for destroying his Xbox with an axe must have been, "I can't eat it, so why not?"

I'm not really so tied down to framerate personally, it depends on the genre and game.

It amazes me how few people understand this. The ranting and raving about hypothetical fps is probably the dumbest thing people that claim to understand video games do.

sorry but 30fps on next gen console games = lame and lazy devs.

Me too would love to see Microshaft fail with their always online bull shit if it is true even.
I am also curious why would they want such requirements, and how will that hinder games, if you are not connected you can't save? Ones you activate your game you can not sell it anymore etc etc?

The whole thing is just ridiculous. Gaming is supposed to be a fun hobby, not this horseshit where you have to worry about the status of the games you purchase and worry about being interrupted in a singleplayer game because your net drops out. The living room is not the place for this kind of crap, consumers are barely tolerant of it on the PC.

That was funny and scary at the same time.

Just having a solid internet connection isn't enough though. Routing, hardware outages and provisioning are just as likely to be affected. Many factors are outside of your control, I remember people in the Diablo 3 thread who were like "my internet is always fine hurrrrr" who didn't understand that's just one of dozens of things that could interrupt sessions.

Yup.

And I trust that Microsoft, with their billion servers, will have fantastic uptime.
But the launch will be a black eye they never recover from, which is stupid for them.
And even 99.9% uptime means there will probably be some times I can't play, which is annoying for me.

I don't have an issue with always on

You like being owned, and being told how long you are allowed to play? Okay.

I'm not sure how either of those factor in. Specifically, how does always being on tell you how long you're allowed to play.

How and where? Sure. How long? Not really.
So, obviously, you've never played an MMO that had "downtime" for patches, etc? You've never played a game with a queue? You've never been bumped out of a game because your internet went down (even briefly)? You've never been unable to play a game because the servers were no longer running/supported?

All of those are valid examples of when an internet connection can limit "how long" you are able to play a game (both in terms of game sessions and game longevity)...

They didn't understand that's just one of dozens of things that could interrupt sessions but they sure as hell understand now after witnessing Diablo 3 and SimCity. Imagine that scenario being ever present for all of your singleplayer games. Sounds like fun to me Blank

Microsoft executive is a total dickbag. news at 11!

I so hope MS goes through with the "always-on" console. It'll be hilarious to watch them quickly patch it out a few months later when it sells like shit.

Sure, there will be people who buy it. If you're on FIOS, you're not going to give a shit about always-on. But there will be millions of people who will not buy it because of that, and even more because of the alleged "no used sales" feature.

Crash and burn, Microsoft. Please. We need new entertainment.

I have things in life I have to do. If they aren't in my control, whatever those are, I have to do their way, jump through hoops, whatever.

Then there are things in life that I can choose to do if I want. Those then have to bring me overall value, which one part is "what kind of hoops are you putting me through?". Some I will, some I won't.

I have said clearly that if Ps4 doesn't have it this req. and 720 does... MS will lose in the court of public opinion big time. Now I ain't buying either, because most of my gaming isn't game-pad orientated.

But I will say "always online" is one thing that doesn't bother me. I am on 99.9% of the time and those times I'm not... I super easily deal with it. That is how I roll because that is how I feel about it. Online req to me isn't an issue.

Long live PS-four!!

Tho I wouldn't get an emotional reaction from this AT ALL!
It's just a game console and it's not even out yet so things can change.

Not to mention that aside from damage due to storms and such power usually comes back pretty quick without a personal visit needed from one of their techs. Internet providers though? "Oh sure we can send out a guy a week from Tuesday".
