Battlefield 4 Gameplay Trailer; Preorder Bonus DLC

This "Fishing in Baku" trailer (NSFW) offers the promised full reveal for Battlefield 4, saying the next installment in DICE's military first-person shooter series is due this fall. Starting with a cinematic which seems to have a "no Russian" Kobayashi Maru quality, the 17+ minute clip then shows how this scenario came to be, segueing to gameplay footage showing hyper-realistic indoor and outdoor environments, stealth, sniping, destructible environments, vehicles, lots of flanking (by the player, if not the enemies), lots of seagulls, lots of puddles, the ability to shake off being shot by a few rounds from a mini-gun and having an entire factory collapse on you, a little field surgery, the Battlefield version of the G-Man, and more. It's apparent this is shot using the PC edition of the game, seemingly confirmed by screen prompts absent of references to those colorful little buttons that don't appear on your keyboard. The game is now being offered for preorder, which entitles purchasers to a free premium expansion pack. The preorder page also offers a few details:

Battlefield 4™ is the genre-defining action blockbuster made from moments that blur the line between game and glory. Fueled by the next-generation power and fidelity of Frostbite™ 3, Battlefield 4™ provides a visceral, dramatic experience unlike any other.

Only in Battlefield can you demolish the buildings shielding your enemy. Only in Battlefield will you lead an assault from the back of a gun boat. Battlefield grants you the freedom to do more and be more while playing to your strengths and carving your own path to victory.

In addition to its hallmark multiplayer, Battlefield 4™ features an intense, dramatic character-driven campaign that starts with the evacuation of American VIPs from Shanghai and follows your squad's struggle to find its way home.

There is no comparison. Immerse yourself in the glorious chaos of all-out war, found only in Battlefield.

One thing I will credit Dice/EA on the BF series: they do great trailers. All those BF3 trailers were so fun to watch.

I couldn't even get through half of the video. Super boring. Same marketing strategy as BF3. SP garbage. If they want SP, they should make it like 1942 SP where the SP was the same as MP except with bots.

THIS is what I want. They haven't done bots since BF 2142, though, and don't offer modding support for people to do it themselves. I guess I'll keep playing bot and coop bot matches in BF2 and UT3.

I'll get Arma 3 if it offers bot matches.

Visually pretty great, but otherwise... looks like BF3 redux... Campaign is very likely just as script-heavy.

Best looking Call of Duty yet!

Looks like BFBC2, which I enjoyed. Hopefully it's a good 12-15 hours SP.

Graphics don't look much different from BF3. Very much an iterative engine update.

I rather clean Blue's oven then play another CoD or BF game.

Zackly. No private/custom servers, no editor/mods, always rampant hax. And people, for some strange reason, want to pay for that. Noooope.

Preorder an EA game? What could go wrong...

Nothing will go wrong. EA will render Simcity 5 to go offline during a 48 hour period, to allow for the influx of BF4 mob density on their servers. The people of Simcity 5 will shake their virtual fists in anger, but will fall on deaf ears at EA. Mission Accomplished. It looks like EA is here to stay, folks.

Yeah that is when gameplay was the selling point not graphics and exclusive DLC.
That's why I still play the original UT from '99 and refuse to buy anything like Battlefield or CoD.

Well iirc they have reimplemented the commander role which I think could greatly improve the MP. With BF3 their logic was fail because they said most people didn't play commander. The reason commander was great was that the commander added greatly to the whole experience, not that most people didn't play it.

A new BF every two years is fine with me. CoD is every year.. I'm also curious to see if they port it to PS4/X720. The engine certainly will scale to them.

Speaking of ARMA3, does anyone have a free pass (or whatever is being offered at this time) that they can pass my way? I'll try to reciprocate from my gift inventory - which isn't that impressive but you never know.

Thanks!

(Yes, I'm talking about ARMA3 in a BF4 thread)

I don't mind socializing, it's just that between Facebook, texting, email, telephone and real life I get more than enough as it is. I really don't have any desire to compare scores with a buddy or spam my kill counts to people or etc. Scoreboards and profiles I get, active spamming of the info I don't understand the appeal to people. It's just free marketing which is why they do this stuff, let's be honest here.

Its reaching a point where the graphics are gettnig so detailed and real, that its getting in the way of gameplay.

All the crap on the screen, all the silly lighting effects. Sure, its fun to sit back and just watch, but when you are trying to play the game, all that stuff just gets in the way.

Funny how some of the older games that had the most fun gameplay, had much more simplistic visuals.

This is actually a good point, between the blue filter and the amount of smoke, debris and etc you're often firing by instinct rather than identification even on HC. The visual frills are nice but I hope they don't go overboard with them, BF3 was already approaching that on some of the desert themed levels. I don't envy them there, it is a tough act balancing immersion vs usability.

Less blue filter in general might help improve that though.
