Plants vs. Zombies 2 in Early Summer; PvZ Facebook App Beta

PopCap announces the "limited, regional launch" of a Plants vs. Zombies Adventures beta on Facebook, offering "the first social adaptation of PopCap’s megahit game." Word is this will be the "first of several new adaptations of the hit franchise coming to consumers in the next year that will take players beyond the confines of the backyard." They also announce they expect to release Plants vs. Zombies 2 early this summer, though they offer no details on the tower defense sequel at this time.

it is hilarious and maybe absurd it is taking this long for them to make pandz 2.

Popcap always takes years for their big games.

Unfortunately this time its because its a facebook farmville type game where you pay 2 win.

Oh wow, I missed that bit of news.

Nice work EA, again! Maybe we'll get to see another fitting tribute baked into the game.

Yeah, not interested in Facebook anything at all.

As for PVZ2, I'm EXTREMELY wary about it, since George Fan is not involved.

I would be interested in whatever George is doing next, but I've not heard and Google isn't really saying.

PvZ 2 will have a lot to prove to me, now that PopCap has been utterly absorbed by the EA hivemind.

On a related note, I got PvZ on my phone today from the latest Humble Android Bundle and it's awesome! Still blows my mind how a game perfectly suited for a mobile touchscreen is good enough to have captivated me for 100+ hours on PC when it came out a few years back.

Are there many facebook/social players on Blue's?

I got massively put off by the barrage of Facebook posts when some of my friends started playing FarmVille, and as a result I've never so much as looked at a Facebook game. I've never felt like my first moonwalking zombie is something I need to share with my manager, or great Aunt.

The way the apps post and use your account has been very much improved and standardized. It's still rather annoying but you can at least find the settings for the game and easily limit its posting to a privacy level that's only visible to you. Example: http://i.imgur.com/3MLNH6G.png

Most apps are okay with that and nobody will ever see anything about them... Others will yell at you and require you to turn some stuff on like this: http://i.imgur.com/LC42PIB.png

But once you start the game you can open a new tab and disable that again by clicking the X and it can't post activity for you again.

Dunno, can't get around the fact that PVZ2 has had a long time in development whilst EA have owned it. You just know they have monetized the fuck outa it, cause they want to capitalize on their investment.

Disclaimer: Of course I've never played PVZ2 only going by what EA has done with every other company they've bought. Would be pleasantly surprised if it is as good as the original without 50,000 different micro transactions for different items\plants.

PvZ2 sounds great, though, as I loved the game. I'm downloading PvZ to my handset from the recently released Humble Mobile Bundle right now.
