Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 - Siberian Strike Next Week

CI Games announces the Siberian Strike DLC is due on March 27th, offering the promised additional content for Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2, the just-released sharpshooting sequel for Windows and consoles. Here are some screenshots and here's word on what this will add to the CryENGINE 3 shooter:

WARSAW, POLAND — March 22, 2013 — CI Games, a fast-growing international publisher and developer of interactive entertainment, today announced Siberian Strike the upcoming DLC for Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 will be available on Wednesday, March 27 for Xbox LIVE® Arcade for 800MP, PlayStation®Network for 9,99 €/9,99 $/ 8,99 £ and Steam for 9,99 €/9,99 $/8,99 £.

The Siberian Strike DLC expands upon the single player storyline, taking players to an isolated Siberian location where new open world maps invite players multiple paths for solving the new tactical missions. Shut off from guidance by spotters, players must find their own path through the new location using the map and their elite sniper skills.

Set in the remote abandoned Siberian city of Birsovik, the Russian government established a top secret military installation focused on arms R&D. American intelligence gets word that the facility shifted its focus recently to weapons of mass destruction. A CIA operative, M. Diaz is sent in undercover, posing as lab personnel, to uncover the truth. When he stops sending in reports, a search mission is quickly put together.

The player steps into the boots of Cole “Sandman” Anderson, a veteran special ops sniper, now in the ranks of Task 121 – a group put together to counter any WMD-hungry warlord’s whim in the Asia – Pacific region. Anderson is ordered to locate Diaz’s GPS signal and assess the situation on the ground, then extract any intelligence he may have found.

I tried the first game, and gave up on it after a short time. It didn't seem even remotely realistic. Snipers aren't supposed to be a one-man army who can take out every hostile on the map. But that's pretty much the game they created.
And you're not in S:GW2, you have a spotter and your job isn't the kill everyone. There are missions where you have to support assualt teams from overwatch positions. You can kill as many or as little people are you need to in some areas.

No, I do plenty of sniping in ARMA 2... There is no wind at all. So basically the only thing keeping you from making a 1000m shot is getting the range and hoping the bullet spread doesn't screw you on rifles that max out at around 800m as far as accuracy.
I don't think you could get nearly that distance in Sniper V2 anyways. IIRC the long shots were around 300-400m maybe? The longest shot was around 750m or so.
Depends on the level but both Sniper Elite and Sniper Ghost Warrior games have shots a lot longer than 400m. The longest in S:GW2 is only about 850m though to be honest, maybe 1 other shot that is longer but compared to the first S:GW there weren't that many long shots. Judging by the DLC screenshots this might improve.

You mean something like this: http://youtu.be/F1dH73p3Yvc
This is only short range sniping but I think it is awesome.
Can't wait for Arma 3

Well, it probably doesn't help their case against being arcadey that they turned it into sniper porn, lol. You don't get the same subtle satisfaction that you do in ARMA (line up the shot, hold breath and fire, see the impact a few seconds later and them go down) when you're staring at a slow-motion close-up of the bullet and subsequent x-ray view of innards bursting over and over again.

And yet they're harder to make (provided you turn off easy mode that shows you a little circle where the bullet will go) than a 1000m shot in ARMA. That's my point.
Maybe they are I've never compared them side by side but Sniper V2 definitely did not feel as realistic as Arma to me anyways.

They do really good stuff with ballistics simulation, like they actually have ricochets and realistic material penetration and deflection, but you could say much of the same about the X-Ray engine used for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Neither are as accurate as the sniper-specific games as far as an all-encompassing simulation.

IIRC from the first game, it's nowhere near the level of sharpshooting simulation that Sniper Elite does. Maybe they improved it since then, I haven't tried the sequel yet.
They all have the hold breath slow down time thing, wind speed affects bullet, bullet drop over distance stuff.
I don't think any of these games gets close to actual realism in a way Arma does. I am not saying they are bad games or not fun but they are not the same category. They are more arcade shooters with x-ray cam and slow down time effects etc.

How are the sniping mechanics? Are they at least somewhat realistic like bullet drop, weather, scope adjustments?
I'm not going to pretend I actually know anything about guns. You can adjust the scope to x3, x6, x9, people have said they want more but I think that's in reference to MP. In terms of the physics, I think everything is spot on. Bullet drops, wind affects it etc much like the first game except more accurately I assume? It's not a sniper simulator but it's closer than any other game out there. (unless theres a sniping sim I'm unaware of?)

In Multiplayer, your scope will shine - giving away your position. I'm not sure of the reasons why, if you camp maybe? or if the sun actually plays a part I haven't worked out yet. The big issue from the original was no prone, but they definitely have prone in. Loud rifles (well, those without silencers) will cause you to show on radar. The silenced rifle(s?) are weaker, you need a headshot to kill more often than not. As with most other rifles you can kill with any well placed shot, so they balanced that out well IMO.

Forgot to mention, Hardcore mode is going to be added in. Not sure if this will be a series of options or just a setting. I'm hoping for options.

Updates, updates and updates. They pushed it out the door with it's pants off but it's running down the street putting them on now Really hope the DLC is great. I'm holding off my review for the "complete" game.

@SpectralMeat, That's not in high quality judging by the sandbags. I suppose I should get off my arse and record some video footage myself.

The gameplay is similar to the original game, give or take some specific gameplay element styles of sniping related activities, except the game mechanics work a lot better.

I don't know, I saw this gameplay video a while back and didn't really made me want to play this game at all.

Those explosions look terrible. It might be a good game but based on some of the gameplay vids it just looks so meh.

taking players to an isolated Siberian location where new open world maps invite players multiple paths for solving the new tactical missions
Open world huh, Sounds good to me

Loving this game. The free DLC maps were released, they are awesome. Apparently DirectX11 and dedicated servers are on the way...
