They had a couple Cutthroat league tests about 8 months ago - and yes it was extremely fun.. Once I dominated, once I couldn't get out of the starter areas due to being pk'd over and over.
PoE is not an "I'm an insta-god" game like almost every arpg since d2. The people who are turned off on PoE are often used to handholding easy-mode arpgs and sum it up to some other reason due to sucking or not willing to understand the many mulch-faceted mechanics. So cutthroat leagues plays perfectly into what the base will enjoy, it just needs alot of testing still. |

| I was going to pass this, then I read about Cutthroat League. Open PvP, drop all items on death. I'm a hardcore fan of this environment, Dread Lord Ultima Online and Asherons Call Darktide were my favorite MMO days. Unfortunately this league isn't available yet, will have to check back later. |

I backed Grim Dawn, so definitely looking forward to that one. Kickstarter games are practically the only ones I'm really excited about at this point. Should start seeing some of the good ones later this year.
Just got back into PoE. Hadn't played since a little while before OB started. Got a lvl 36 ranger going right now, almost done with Act 3. Been having terrible luck with drops though, which is why I'm kind of over-leveled at this point. Having fun with it though. Act 3 is definitely a lot different than the first 2 acts, which I'd played through many times already. |

I think the Titan Quest expansion left a lot of bad tastes in people's mouths. I know it did for me. And one of the devs explained that it wasn't their fault that they couldn't fix it, which is fine, but then someone posted something from the lead dev on Grim Dawn that they "thought they had fixed the rubberbanding", and that really made me stay the hell away.
If the rubberbanding that ruined both TQ and its expansion has any chance of coming back in their next game, I want no part of it.
Even so, I'm not sure that Titan Quest as an IP is really worth anything. It was all just standard mythology kind of thrown together and churned into an ARPG. A good one, don't get me wrong, but the setting itself was kinda "eh".

Also, even 12k would not be anything to scoff at...

Now you have me wondering WTF happened to that IP, though... We didn't hear anything about that when THQ went kablooey, did we? Grim Dawn will: •Be DRM free! •Join up with friends in coop-multiplayer through online match-making or play over LAN and experience the full game together.
An upcoming ARPG that will not require an internet connection... will have to support these guys. |

Verno wrote on Mar 15, 2013, 13:05: You sound like you're falling into the ol' trap of buying stuff and never finishing previous games. My new rule is that I try to make sure I only ever rotate three games at a time, no matter what else is coming out. At least one of them must be a non-MP game and I have finish at least one of them a month. It's working out pretty well, I'm finally making a dent in my backlog. Plus I'm skipping a lot of new titles and getting them cheaper later. The only time I make an exception is for a true deal (ie $45 for Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite). Oh, I'm not falling into that. I FELL into that years ago.
It's fine. One day the PC market is going to go full EA, and at that point I'm just going to stop buying games. And then I have plenty to tide me over till I die.

I might buy more but the cosmetic effects are pretty underwhelming. Their ethical microtransaction system really is painless from a player's point of view though, I hope we see some figures showing GGG's making good money from this game. It would be a shame if they did everything right and almost no one gave them money and the conclusion was that companies do need to fuck over the consumer to make any profit. This is actually the reason why I decided to spend 25 bucks on this. It was the first free2play game that I saw where none of the microtransactions had ANY impact on gameplay (well, maybe except for the depot limitation but cluttering up your depot is probably not a good idea anyway). |
