SimCity Hacked to Play Offline?

A new video on YouTube shows the work of UKAzzer, who has (apparently) intrepidly worked out how to play the new SimCity offline with some home hacking, in spite of EA's suggestions this would be a massive, if not impossible undertaking (thanks Videogamer). Here's word:

So with a little bit of package editing within SimCity, and a little playing about in the code, it's possible to enable debug mode. I linked the activation to the "Help Center" button in the main menu for ease. Most debug features are disabled without having an actual developer's build (they have terraforming tools etc. available in the full developer build!), but a few things do still work - including editing the main highways.

Not only that - but you can edit the highways ANYWHERE - even outside of your city boundary... and even if you quit the game and log back in later, it's all saved safely on the server.

This shows that highway editing will be easily possible, AND that editing outside of the artificially small city boundaries should be very viable too.

Other things I have modded out with a quick change: Unlimited time to remain disconnected (won't get booted at 20 minutes, can now be disconnected "forever"). Population count now shows REAL figure, not the "artificially inflated" figure. My large cities have a population of about 15k now, not 100k :P

Hopefully someone can put out a simple to install mod that just rips this game free of the online mode and lets people just have fun. Quadrupling the size of the city space would be nice too.

When everyone is blasting EA for lying, let's not let Maxis off the hook here. They deserve just as much indignation for this mess of a game release and it pains me to see them potentially getting away from this without much damage to their reputation.
There is no difference between EA and Maxis. Its the same company. EA only kept the Maxis name for brand reasons.

At this point I make no dinstinction between EA and Maxis. They're both the same crap.

Why do the lies need to be "blatant" for you to see the truth? Companies are lying to you every day, you just don't see it. You must see it.

In the end, those that pirate the game will have the better experience.

(I haven't looked to see if the game has been pirated yet.)

Wow, that does debunk donuts. I guess I was using 20 year old intel!

But look at this. He's exploited the game to the point that it's about numbers, not building a city. He's just figuring out how to maximize the AI, not build a cool, functional city.

I still say it's a Sim Failure. While gaming the, err, game, that much can certainly be a rewarding intellectual exercise, it's so far from the spirit of the game that it seems kind of dull to me.

My approach to games is getting old...

Nobody, absolutely nobody, can defend EA on this. Anyone who does is either a fucking retarded idiot or a shill. We've reached a point where everything that EA has told us about this game was a blatant lie and EA is now without any defense of any kind. They lied, they fucked up the launch, they did everything they shouldn't have done.

And the only persons they can blame are themselves. This is EA at its best, a company not worth of a single cent from any gamer.

The best part is that when EA tries to block it, it'll just be another in a long string of black eyes...

Call me a diabolical bastard but every day since the release of Sim City I go on to EA Chat support to tell them I didn't buy the game.

Guys, do yourself a favor and just go back and play the older ones.

SimCity 1, and have fun:
http://incise.org/advanced-sim-city-strategies.html

Just download the classic SNES "rom" simcity, and a SNES emulator such as snes9x or zsnes.

Jeez, SNES?

If you are going to play SIM 1, at least get yourself an Amiga Emulator. Do not go for the inferior version.

There you go

It would seem easier to buy Sim City 4 Deluxe on Steam and add the widescreen parameters: Widescreen Settings

That's what I did. Runs great.

I can understand buying this game because the DRM doesn't scare you and you just want to play the damn thing.

I may have eventually bought this game when everything was ironed out, but if this is true, it's going too far. I refuse to support a company who blatantly lies.

EA: Okay, look, none of this did happen. It's all not true. And now please look at me so that I can flashy-thing you!

No, even better:

EA: See - it REALLY is in the game.
We just hid it!

Consoles? I owned two: a Pong clone and an Atari 2600. And that's it.

SimCity SNES is dumb, don't go back to it.

SimCity 2K was where I stopped, and it's probably where I'd start up again. Instead, though, I went to RollerCoaster Tycoon 2. It's funny, I had started Dishonored and have XCOM installed but not yet launched yet I ended up going back to RCT2 and have put like 10 hours into it since Friday.

Impossible eh EA? Here's a suggestion EA, get rid of John Riccitiello and beg Trip to come back and right the ship, Because Riccitiello's decisions being so anti consumerism spawns forums full of unbridled hate.

Want something newer? Then just play SimCity 4--that one works offline, doesn't it? Turn off it's music, and download the torrent soundtrack for the new SimCity 2013 and play that music in the background, and boom!
