played the game, it could have been a great game, another FPS trying to be a MMORPG and P2W tactics... WW2 games are great in general for a reason... The technology, the story, and the ironsight weapons that just make for a great video game...
I wanted to love this game, it impressed me in the first few minutes of playing the demo/tutorial mission
Unfortunately, many things just led me to alt-f4 to never return...
1. P2W, I was attacking a point. I seen a enemy and he seen me but I was behind a wooden barricade... I retreated when out of site, and took a prone position, knowing he would be aggressive thinking, i'd be standing behind the wooden barricade.. Life is questionable at this point, a gamble must be made.. I guessed he would be coming from his left, (or the right side of the barricade in front of me) because its common most players play that (I'm a well trained mental tactics guru) I go prone and zoom in on the spot... 3 seconds later holding my breath in anxiousness, he comes out and I fire my M1 Carbine, the most perfect gun to have in this scenario of about 40meters, with my iron site dug into his chest (and i've shot enough m1's to know how to aim for all the haters out there :p... The shot came out, and I should have had a instant kill and very satisfying feeling, getting my first kill.... Sadly the random newb ballistics made the bullet go nowhere close, followed by the game mechanics to pretty much blind me and take my sight way out of perspective so next shot takes longer... This is not a reason to play a FPS game... Give my gun, and its capibilities, and don't fuck with it... Shooting games are for twitch gamers, and those who practice should excel, not controlled by time spent in game, or money spent..... Sadly, i lost all gratification, missing this shot, being blinded, not able to really zoom in fast enough for a 2nd shot, to have this unskilled nub run out in front of me at 30 meters and actually shoot me like nothing with his more experience ranked gun.... What a turn off..
2. The other things that irked me, was the total unpolish and outright laziness of the terrain designer... So many 3d models not having transparent textures put on the edges, so when walking over a bridge for example, the models were either not lined up quite right, or their textures were fighting for monitor viewing rights... so they create that annoying flickering.. (If you ever played 2nd life you probably know what i mean) These things tell me the game is rushed, and no care is given and hardly would anyone care to go back and fix up all this stuff...
p2w, undesired deviation, and weapon control that wont work unless you pay.. sadly i cant support it, and dont find it entertaining one bit... Very sad because it has that feeling it could be really fun, and was actually the closest thing I have seen in a long time to being a quality shooter... unfortunately it will fade out and just be milked for quick cash. |

I thought I'd post a mini review with my experiences (also, it's been a few months since I've played, some things are likely different, but I'd wager the core is the same):
I played this game constantly for about two weeks. It's addictive to win the war once you figure out the game and have a few assault teams you can move around.
Here's how the game works, for those that play games
The "General" portion is it's a lattice based map you control in your browser. The further you progress in the FPS game, the more credits you receive to buy more "assault teams", which are just various unit types you can move on the map like infantry, Anti-tank infanty, armor, air, and paratroopers. If you move your assault team of infantry onto an enemy territory that's occupied by enemy units, a battle opens on the list of games to join. Folks can then populate both sides (it requires a few players on each side to start). Once the battle starts, each side has tickets like in Battlefield, though the HUGE difference here is that tickets are determined SOLELY on what units your generals (or you!) sent. So you may have 200 infantry tickets, and the enemy may have 300 and 20 armor. Clearly your team will have a tough time winning, so you can ALT+Tab back to the browser and work with other generals to send more backup.
So now, the FPS portion. The basis is session-based games with win conditions of either capturing all command points to cut off the enemy, defending your position until time limit or until enemies run out of tickets. It's class based where you select your class (before you join, but you can sometimes change in-game depending on units you or your general sent).
It's a refreshing experience after playing Battlefield and Planetside 2, and any other game where you can spam your spot key and see "doritos" over everything you've spotted. That doesn't happen in H&G. There is NO spotting. You can ACTUALLY HIDE in this game, and finding snipers and other hidden units adds a tactical element that games have been missing for years.
Bullets have real physics (mostly).
Tanks are quite different from other games. First, you must be qualified to use a tank through the unlock system. It takes a while, but it's worth it. Once you're in a tank, it's more like a real tank than other games. You can look out of the cupola to see a wide area, but then you're exposed. Once you drop down, your sight is quite limited, but it's the only way to fire. With such limited sight and no spotting system or cheesy radar, you have to really rely on your guys to keep the area around your tank secure.
Overrall, the "Heroes" (FPS) side of the game is somewhat polished and on par with other recent titles. The graphics are fantastic (the tanks have jaw-dropping detail) and sounds are great. The "Generals" side is a bit clunky unless you have a beefy system. This is because it's mostly a flash interface you run in your web browser. Some of the UI elements were frustrating to click or manipulate, like drag and drop. Sometimes it seems battling the interface is tougher than battling the enemies!
The game can be real fun once you unlock an assault team, and coordinate with other generals and players to defeat the enemy. It's very satisfying to be on the last few lives against an enemy that still has hundreds, then you receive a few hundred infantry, tanks, and air from your Generals! |

Played the closed beta and couldn't get into it, the game uses an in-browser type game engine which at the time you couldn't tell it where you wanted to install - it just plopped it on your System drive though there was some sort of workaround to move the files if you wanted.
It was basically conquest mode from battlefield but the player movement and shooting just felt really clunky. It's been awhile but I think they had limits on what class you could pick sort of like Red Orchestra. Good luck going up against a sniper when all you have is some slow to aim enfield with iron sights.
The scope is just too big and at the end of the day you'll end up with a server population equivilant to Red Orchestra 2 - couple of hundred people. |

| Well I didn't try playing a general, so this is just speculation, but it looked like generals basically just chose what adjacent point to attack next in this map and maybe even choose how many reinforcements to invest. |

| The hook here is that you can play the General role, where you get in a browser and manage the meta-strategical side of things. I would hope that includes giving specific orders to troops in individual matches, but I don't know. Otherwise, yes, it is a session-based FPS. |

The only difference I saw was that instead of choosing a server from a list, you choose one of the points in a map to join matches. Sadly it didn't grab my attention for long. Bummer, hopefully I'll enjoy it. I'm a HUGE RO (Red Orchestra) fan maybe it's like that with planes, tanks, etc. That is indeed a bummer. I am going to try it as well but I was hoping for a more positive response from someone who had actually tried it. |

| This game has been getting some really good word of mouth. I'm defiantly going to be checking it out a month or so after it's fully released. |
