PlanetSide 2 EU Breach

The European PlanetSide 2 website has word that the EU servers for the MMOFPS have suffered a breach, explaining what this means to users (thanks Rock, Paper, Shotgun). Here's word:

We have detected that there recently has been unauthorized third-party access to one of our systems. The possibility that your data (Email address and password) has been accessed by an unauthorized third party cannot be excluded. We were able to detect the problem promptly and took all necessary actions to rectify the issue.

Your account data is encrypted with us for your security. Nevertheless, we have decided to take preventative measures in order to ensure the highest degree of security.

All accounts that may have been subject to unauthorized access have received an e-mail in which we have requested the user to change their password.

If you are not able to log into your game, this means that your account has been suspended for security reasons. You can reactivate your account by following the link below and creating a new password.

What they "forgot" to mention is that this only affects accounts ran by ProSeiben. This is some group SOE got to run the EU side of things and by all accounts they do it badly. Even things like not posting the game news on the launcher.

Not sure why they have them at all since you can simply bypass them and create your account with SOE (and I did, and anyone would recommend that you do so).

You'd think by now sony would have learned to take their security a lot more seriously. Cheap pricks.

Someone acts as if hacking would be rare or require the victim to act stupid and faults Sony. Ohh! Huge surprise, that someone is Cutter.

It doesn't matter how many breaches you fix or how well you fix them (or how seriously you take security in general), best security practice doesn't magically make you invulnerable.

Shit I've never even heard of these guys who run it in Europe. Sony doesn't run it there.

If you don't like where gaming is heading, stop giving your money to the people who are taking it in that direction.
