Joel Bylos is Funcom's New Creative Director

Funcom announces that Joel Bylos will be stepping up from his role as designer to assume a new mantle as Creative Director of a new centralized live team that will support all three of the developer's current MMOGs: The Secret World, Age of Conan, and Anarchy Online. "Having one centralized live team responsible for both the health and the future of each online game means there will always be fresh ideas, years of design know-how and invaluable skill with our tools flow freely between each project," says Bylos. "I am very excited to have been given the opportunity to lead this team going forward and we have already started mapping out a very exciting future for ‘Anarchy Online’, ‘The Secret World’ and ‘Age of Conan’. Stay tuned, great things are coming!" How this news impacts each game specifically is touched upon in a new Anarchy Online Monthly Development Update, an Age of Conan February 2013 Game Director’s Letter, and The Secret World February 2013 Game Director’s Letter. Word is: "In the letters, Bylos give fans a glimpse at some of the team's plans, including the new graphics engine for 'Anarchy Online' which the team hopes to get onto test servers soon, an outline of the coming updates for 'The Secret World' including the Tokyo update and the soon to hit Issue #6: 'The Last Train to Cairo', as well as what impact the upcoming Conan movie might have on 'Age of Conan'."

Hahaha. They've been talking about this since 2009. Dated graphics aren't what was holding it back as much as dated gameplay, so the update wouldn't have done much for increasing the population even if it launched on time.

Dude.. you have got to be kidding me.. "shitty games"????

Um Anarchy Online is one of the most awesome online games of all time. I have had a paid subscription to that game since it came out. I've tried a lot of other mmos and none of them are as fulfilling as learning to twink the crap out of an AO toon. Is there stuff i whine about sure.. but every game has aspects about it you wish were different.

as far as AOC and Secret World they are pretty good games to. There is not a single game funcom has ever released that anyone that actually plays games could call "shitty".

they have also released a couple of the greatest adventure games of all time.

His AO dev update was a bit worrying, might have well said "i dont know what the hell i am doing, and i am likely to make changes you wont like".

AO needs a GD who understand it, and funcom need to be whipped badly. Not sure i will ever forgive them. really not sure why i have given them this much money over the last 10 years.
