After Reset Announced

The After Reset website reveals development of After Reset, a Unity-engine project described as "a classic post-apocalyptic role-playing game" (thanks No Mutants Allowed). They offers some concept art and the following premise:

Planet Earth. 132 years after the "Reset," the thermonuclear apocalypse which ended human civilization. Around one third of the globe is covered by "Yellow Zones," where the ruins of cities are covered with radioactive dust. In these areas, Anarchist "Survivor" groups have taken control, and uncontaminated food and drinking water are valued at parity with human life. Another third of the Earth is in the agony of the "Red Zones," the epicenters of the deadly anomalies which arose as a result of a nuclear chain reaction in the atmosphere, and the morphing of the planet. The majority of terrestrial organisms are not capable of surviving in the "Red Zones," which makes it a perfect home for mutants and "guests" from deep space. The planet is unrecognizable and empty…

There aren't even close to enough books, films, and games to consider this genre oversaturated. I like the sounds of what they're doing except for the top down view. I hate TDV! Isometric or forget it dammit!

It's strange, the site says "old school top view" but the concept art is all isometric. I wonder if it's just bad English, and it really is isometric. These guys are European maybe, and English is their 2nd language? I see the log in button is misspelled "SINGUP" lending credence to my theory.

whoa.. your diligence in observation is nigh unparalleled

are you a detective or something? some kind of CIA analyst?

damn, dont send a drone after me! Nervous

What, are you against music or something?

They have forums, and it looks like they barely have any traffic. Now is the time for you to do these Russians a favor and kindly advise them of their spelling error.

C'mon... with Fallout 3, Rage, Borderlands, Wasteland 2, etc. (and those are just some of the "big" names... there are lots of indie/smaller projects that leverage the post-apocalyptic "style"), you don't think a game company isn't making it a little hard to stand out by choosing this genre?

And yet the Stalker and Metro 2033 games managed to stake out a region of the post apoc genre to occupy quite successfully.

Being of a certain genre isn't the problem, it's mass churned out pap that adds nothing (or indeed relies on the popularity of other IP to get people interested despite being substandard) that's the problem.

The game uses isometric perspective, as shown in the concept shots in NMA. I also don't think it's saturated. If it tries to be fallout, and manages to succeed at it, I'm buying no questions asked.

It's still a market with pent-up demand as far as I can see.

The only problem with indie RPGs set in this genre is that practically every one of them tries too hard to be Fallout 2. After Reset looks like it might have the same problem.

This might just be a genre that is reaching saturation...
