Ugh. I thought Skyfall was pretty bland. I liked both of the prior Bond movies, although I was a big fan of the Brosnan era and don't think Craig makes a good Bond. But Skyfall, ugh.

Skyfall was a decent Bond movie, and WAY better than that Quantum of Solace desaster. What a turd of a movie... Casino Royale is despite its pacing problems still a very good Bond movie, the best with Craig yet.

Consoles? I owned two: a Pong clone and an Atari 2600. And that's it.

oh, why did you have to say that now I'm going to think of that every time I watch it...

And you reminded me of the new Q... I had purged that little cunt from my memory. No, you are right. Skyfall is shit. No matter how bad ass and cool the new M is.

I use to HATE, hate Live and Let Die... good film after Quantum of Solace. Good boat chases too.

bring back John Cleese?

Craig is the best Bond behind Connery and Skyfall is one of the best Bond filsm period. All intelligent and right thinking people know this because it is a fact.

I hope my internet sarcasm detector is just broken. Craig is a great Bond, I agree but Skyfall was a huge disappointment. The sheer amount of stupid plot sequences involved in setting up Javier Bardems little revenge scenario bordered on insane. The new Q was pandering so hard to a new generation of viewer that I almost expected him to start checking Twitter. The lack of gadgetry was intended to be tongue in cheek regressive for the older folks but many of them like those aspects of the movies. Bond backstory? Sacrilege! I don't need to hear about Bonds childhood, he's best left ambiguous, the mystery is one of the big draws of the character. Playing home alone at the end of the movie was just the final straw for me.

It was better than Quantum of Solace but let's be honest, that's a pretty low bar. It falls way short of Casino Royale, I'd rank Skyfall alongside some of the poorer Brosnan films. It was very bombastic but not terribly satisfying once you get beyond the visual spectacle.

The held up in a house final battle was just so fucking American, absolutely pathetic "battle". Apart from that end fight scene the film was good, I like the villian. The end was awesome (OMG A MALE M! AGAIN).

Casino Royale is his best, it's brutal and he looks good HUGE.

Best after Connery?... you must joking. (eh eh *slaps you*)

Dalton and Lazenby are equal second place. Lazenby could have easily been a great bond. Look how brutal he was, but unlike Connery he could do the flip side. Diana Rigg, awesome bond chick, with a cool car.

They just aren't going dark enough. I want to see blood, I want to see brutal death. Not just over the top violence, they need to spend time, slowly, painfully taking these guys out. Like they did in Casino Royale (extended intro).

I can't really watch Brosnan any more. Goldeney is in the top 5 films but the World is Not Enough and Die Another Day are pretty dreadful to watch again. Go on, go take a peak they have not aged well.

Scientists push plan to ‘evaporate’ asteroids using lasers (for real).

Tied to the heads of space sharks, apparently.

The thing is, you'd never get Russia or China to agree to letting the US anything in space capable of delivering 1.4 megatons of energy to the surface.

Also, the name of the planet orbiting satellite that shoots a massive laser that destroys heavenly bodies? That's right, the DE-STAR, or Directed Energy Solar Targeting of Asteroids an exploRation. I thought the White House put the kibosh on that already?

I'd like to try a cruise at least once. For the people I know that have been on them they said they were pretty awesome, particularly the dining aspects. You just constantly pig out I'm told.

You don't need a cruise for that aspect, there are also all inclusive resorts. My favorite vacation though was renting a villa in Acapulco. You get your own staff: head of house, chef, maids, driver, bartender. Sit in the infinity pool on a cliff looking down at the bay while they bring you drinks. They ask you what you want for your meals and do all the shopping. If you want to go to the beach or into town have the driver take you. Get all your laundry done before you come home. Tons of other services and perks all in a beautiful villa nestled in the cliff mansions.

Sounds like it would be expensive but we found it comparable with a cruise or resort and even cheaper in many aspects. But the best part is your alone and don't have your fellow tourists to annoy you.

That sounds sweet, Seph. How did you find it? How much was it?

All credit goes to my mom on that one, she's great at planning vacations. Sadly I also can't get you a price other than "comparable to a resort or cruise" heh. But what I can do is get you the place: http://www.acapulcoluxuryvillas.com/villas_for_rent/acapulco/cielo_azul/

Looks like they renamed it since we were there... That site also let's you browse many others. I think when we were there it wasn't associated with a company running the rest of the villas for rent as it appears to be now. That might've made the price go up but looking at the rest on the site I'm guessing it's one of the cheapest. Also the idea is to go with 7+ and split it. There's 5 (6?) bedrooms, some with a king bed, others with two queens.

edit: Here's a short video I took when we arrived: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGWkkF0KnBA Ignore my goofy voice at the end heh.

edit2: We went in 2010 which is when the violence in Acapulco was just starting to get really bad. That could've affected the prices. To be honest I don't know if it's gotten worse or better but expect the price to reflect whichever. We went to Wal-Mart one day and it was under army protection in the parking lots and many times when we we're out on the roads we'd be behind an army truck full of guys armed to the teeth. Some might be put off by that but we honestly felt more secure knowing those guys were around the city. But really you spend more time at the villa relaxing, drinking, and eating then you do in Acapulco.

Yeah, I don't like the "captive audience" aspect of cruises either. At least at a resort, you can do your own thing.

Damn that cruise sounded just nasty!

I had a coworker go on a carnival cruise the first week in December. Group of us went to lunch yesterday:

Me: So I was meaning to ask, was that a carnival cruise you went on?
Coworker: That was my boat!
Me: You were on the shitboat?!
Boss: <almost shoots pop out of nose, laughing>

So apparently he had been on that very boat, only two months before it went to hell. For me personally, I'd never go on a carnival cruise, and I'd be very resistant to go on any of them. Too many horror stories, esp the ones you hear where a virus gets loose and makes half the people on the boat sick. No thanks!
