| I only have multiple tabs open related to the current specific task. I won't keep tabs open for utility usually they just represent a queue of things to look at. Like right now I have 3 more Blue's threads to look at tabbed up and ready to go but nothing else. Often that goes well over 9 though. IT'S WELL OVER 9!!!! |

| I used to bookmark and tab like crazy, then I found 'read it later', well now it is called 'Pocket'. love being able to just mark stuff of interest and easily get to it from my pc, or phone. Then when I have finally read it I can check it off the list. It will still be in my account though in case I want to find it again. |

"That one, that one, that one", next thing you know you have 30 tabs open and it's a rush to the end. Most aren't as good in full screen though so close them all then rinse and repeat.

Email has one or two tabs. Documentation related to whatever I'm working on potentially takes up a lot of them. Yet more tabs are taken up by a web-based issue tracking system, with any tickets I'm working on opened. And then I might have a website, forum thread, and/or Youtube video about a bug I'm working on...
I do have a tendency to leave tabs open when I shouldn't, but having more than 9 tabs open is hardly pointless. |

I do get into the too-many-tabs thing.
Tabs I will always have open: 1) Gmail 2) Three messageboards I frequent, including the "News Forum" page here 3) Facebook 4) Secondary email
Tabs I will have open from time to time: 5) Occasional Google search 6) LinkedIn 7) Yelp 8) Any other sites I'm browsing
Tabs I keep open too long: 9) Job posting I like but don't feel like doing the cover letter for today. If I bookmark and close it I'll forget about it. I may, anyway 10) Apartment posting I like but, since I'm looking at job postings, know is too soon to contact 11) Things I see and want to buy but are too expensive right now so I figure I'll keep it up for a day, sometimes a month, to make certain I'm not impulse buying. I buy 10% of this. Currently: a $300 waxed denim jacket and You Don't Know Jack (love this, but seriously lack people to play with )
Currently at about 14 tabs. My computer at home, which I use less often (not chained to it 10 hours a day) has, like, 30 open, since I often just go to the first group and totally forget everything else open. |

Tabs are why I never switched away from firefox. Tab groups are brilliant. I actually do usually have around 9 or less tabs in a single group.
But article is bullshit and completely missing workflow of people who like to open many tabs. Hell, I usually have 4 or 5 app tabs just for social networking/email. It's not about looking at stuff simultaneously, but about organization, breaking down tasks into smaller pieces, and not fricking having to remember what the heck I was reading 30 minutes ago that might be a solution to my problem. |

I'm not really sure what the guy in the article is talking about. I use Chrome on a 2560x1440 display and just testing it I opened 25 tabs and could still see the titles on all of them... it condenses the tabs, it doesn't just make them disappear or anything.
If your computer can't handle 25 tabs in your browser you probably need a new system, too, or more RAM than you had in 2002. |

I'm bad for having a lot of tabs open. At home I have easily 100+ sitting in firefox. I have a bad habit of seeing an article or something that I want to revisit later and archiving it there. "So use the history feature instead". That only works if you remember the name of the site or article. "So use bookmarks". I like to keep my bookmark list small.
The current firefox doesn't load all those tabs on startup anymore anyways, only when you click on them. So other than the overhead of listing all those tabs at the top it shouldn't cause performance issues. |
