We'll see what they come up with then. (I still give it pretty good odds it'll be Call of Duty in Space. :p )

Sure Bungie has made other games:
Myth - A mediocre and forgettable RTS series Oni - A forgettable TPARPG Marathon - Forgotten by gaming history except by Mac zealots.
The only reason Bungie is known is for Halo and that is because it was a premier launch title on a console that was fighting out of its weight class. I give them credit for creating it and milking the franchise for all it's worth, because they are a business after all, but let's not pretend that volume equates to achievement.
After all, the Pinto sold in droves, too.

Wait, what? When did Myth become "mediocre"? I've barely played the series myself but I thought it was pretty much reknowned for it's popularity; was there some sudden paradigm shift in what old games are considered "good", or is this just a case of you personally disliking it for some reason? |

Everyone's shortlist is different, of course -- I think only two or three of those would make it on my list of 10 -- but it seems bizarre to include those, practically the definition of serviceable sequels, as genre benders while blowing off Myth. |

Halo did many things on the Xbox better than any title on the PC did at the time.
It also did many worse. Much of that was fixed with Halo 2. And while it didn't grow quite enough with Halo 3, they're still very satisfying games with very satisfying multiplayer.

Is the Halo franchise really all that terrible? I don't know - I find a lot of people slam on Halo just for the heck of it. I've always found the games pretty engaging and fun to play. There's a reason they sell so well. I don't mind that they keep putting out new chapters and releases because I always want to see what's going to happen next in the story.
Then again, I'm also one of those rare players who's only in it for the singleplayer / co-op and avoids the competitive multiplayer like the plague - maybe that's where the franchise gets a lot of it's bad rap from?
Edit: Either way I'm looking forward to seeing how this develops - at the least Bungie's games always have a ton of refinement behind them, co-op play (for the most part) and tend to align with my own particular favored genres and settings. Even if this turns out to be "just another shooter", I'll probably still play it for these reasons alone.

So there's no real news then. And what finest games in history? You're confusing quality with quantity. Myth was decent yeah, everything else? Not so much. Halo? Big seller but big whoop. Now, had they ever fully realized Pimps at Sea they would have all my love and respect.
