Bungie's Destiny Details Soon

The Bungie Website states that Destiny is the title of the upcoming non-Halo project from Bungie, confirming repeated rumors and even some details. Speaking of details, there are none to speak of at the moment, so whether or not this is an MMOFPS as has been speculated is not confirmed, and there's still no word on target platforms for the developer's first project since their emancipation from Microsoft. They say this will change in "a matter of days" when we get a "first glimpse" at their "brave new world." In the meantime they offer links to new social pages for the game on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.

Oops, you're right, I completely forgot. My bad.

We'll see what they come up with then. (I still give it pretty good odds it'll be Call of Duty in Space. :p )

Oni's actually one of my favorite games. It was underappreciated.

Oni was awesome. I still replay it every now and then. I forgot it was made by Bungie though.

Anyway, Bungie is now owned by Activision, and somehow they want to believe that that's better than being owned by Microsoft. We'll see how they feel once they're told to make Call of Duty in Space year after year after year.

hah wow. even with literally zero information the blues crowd finds something to gripe about, nevermind that it's about a company that's made some of the finest games in gaming history.

Do you honestly believe Halo is one of the finest games in history? Are you one of those people who believe that sales numbers don't lie? Are you emotionally involved with the story of Master Chief? Do you believe that Halo was the first quality FPS title ever released? Did you play any FPS titles on the PC before Halo was released?

here's a question for you: did YOU play any PC games before halo?
here's another one: did i mention halo anywhere in my post?

apparently you know dogshit about bungie's history as an innovative gaming company if all you can dredge up from your puny mind is halo. and not that it matters, but yes i do think halo is all that, and it has nothing to do with numbers. halo was a game changer when it came out, and all your crying about it doesn't change that fact. i won't bother listing any since you've already proven your irrational hatred without me ever bringing it up, and you'd just grasp for reasons to minimize anything its done anyway.

i never understood why people hated halo so much, or any game for that matter. it's just. A. GAME. it's like hating gays for ruining marriage. solution; just fucking avoid it!

I can tell I hit a nerve. But you're right -- Halo was a game changer when it came out... but it had nothing to do with the game's quality.

Bungie popularized regenerating health, fuck that company.

The original didn't even have regenerating health, it had a shield and non-regenerating health.

That Getaway game popularized regenerating health.

Bungie is a great company, and it's been a long time since they weren't beholden to a hardware manufacturer for their titles.. I truly hope good things come of project Destiny.

Sure Bungie has made other games:

Myth - A mediocre and forgettable RTS series
Oni - A forgettable TPARPG
Marathon - Forgotten by gaming history except by Mac zealots.

The only reason Bungie is known is for Halo and that is because it was a premier launch title on a console that was fighting out of its weight class. I give them credit for creating it and milking the franchise for all it's worth, because they are a business after all, but let's not pretend that volume equates to achievement.

After all, the Pinto sold in droves, too.

Wait, what? When did Myth become "mediocre"? I've barely played the series myself but I thought it was pretty much reknowned for it's popularity; was there some sudden paradigm shift in what old games are considered "good", or is this just a case of you personally disliking it for some reason?

I see we differ greatly in opinion. I have fond memories of Myth (well at least the first 2) and found Crysis useful only as a benchmarking tool.

What did Doom 2 and Thief 2 do? Everyone's shortlist is different, of course -- I think only two or three of those would make it on my list of 10 -- but it seems bizarre to include those, practically the definition of serviceable sequels, as genre benders while blowing off Myth.

Halo did many things on the Xbox better than any title on the PC did at the time.

It also did many worse. Much of that was fixed with Halo 2. And while it didn't grow quite enough with Halo 3, they're still very satisfying games with very satisfying multiplayer.

Haven't played 4.

Is the Halo franchise really all that terrible? I don't know - I find a lot of people slam on Halo just for the heck of it. I've always found the games pretty engaging and fun to play. There's a reason they sell so well. I don't mind that they keep putting out new chapters and releases because I always want to see what's going to happen next in the story.

Then again, I'm also one of those rare players who's only in it for the singleplayer / co-op and avoids the competitive multiplayer like the plague - maybe that's where the franchise gets a lot of it's bad rap from?

Edit: Either way I'm looking forward to seeing how this develops - at the least Bungie's games always have a ton of refinement behind them, co-op play (for the most part) and tend to align with my own particular favored genres and settings. Even if this turns out to be "just another shooter", I'll probably still play it for these reasons alone.

So there's no real news then. And what finest games in history? You're confusing quality with quantity. Myth was decent yeah, everything else? Not so much. Halo? Big seller but big whoop. Now, had they ever fully realized Pimps at Sea they would have all my love and respect.
