SEGA® of America, Inc., SEGA® Europe Ltd., Gearbox Software and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products® today announced that its highly buzzed-about blockbuster Aliens™: Colonial Marines video game is now available on store shelves across the globe for PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows® PC. A release date for the announced Wii U™ version will be revealed at a later time. The critical reception for the game so far has been pretty negative, and Eurogamer notes a this tweet and this one from sleuth superannuation pointing to this post from last year that he disregarded at the time. This includes a comment from someone claiming to be an ex-developer on the project saying at the time development had "been a total train wreck," and that Gearbox was only developing the multiplayer portion of a game primarily designed by TimeGate Studios.
Pitting players against the universe’s deadliest killing machine, the Xenomorph, Aliens: Colonial Marines is the official video game continuation to one of Sci-Fi’s most renowned movie franchises. As the authentic addition to the ALIENS canon, the game’s stunning visuals and adrenaline pumping action will deliver a breathtakingly immersive four-player drop-in drop-out cooperative campaign and four expansive competitive multiplayer modes – Escape, Team Deathmath, Survivor and Extermination.

Edit : Guess I'll be playing more Natural Selection 2 http://unknownworlds.com/ns2/
if feels much more like an AVP game than this ever will.
im really dissapointed with this - it feels like it was made along side AvP 2 about 10 years ago.
everything just feels old - almost like its a game designed for phones or something.

I appear to have bought a game full of enormous suck. :/
nin wrote on Feb 12, 2013, 21:14:That review is hilarious! Although it's completely different to any other review I've read it does a very good job of conveying why the game is bad and why it's not worth buying, even if it's on sale.
RPS weighs in, and it's not good...

I would love to see a game more in the style of the first or third movies. No badass marines armed to the teeth, no swarming enemies easy to dispatch. One enemy stalking you, you have little (or no) weapons. Evade, outsmart and escape. Amnesia with the Aliens license basically.
But that's a harder sell to all the "bro's" out there.

He's wrong about that point. Just because 90% of people don't like something doesn't mean the 10% that do are suffering a kind of stockholm syndrome. TB is still a total and complete dbag.

edit: I like the part where the alien bursts through body armor...
SpectralMeat wrote on Feb 12, 2013, 20:16:Wow. I thought the media coming out for the game looked really bad but I never thought it was going to be THIS bad! The highest review score comes from a newspaper that doesn't even have much coverage of games. Currently it's being outscored by Duke Nukem Forever.

Mad Max RW wrote on Feb 12, 2013, 21:10:I wonder if that is because of how the preorders being distributed. In North America games release on Tuesday in EU it is usually a Thursday so that would make the game being best seller for about a week.
Keep in mind games like DNF, AvP3, and WarZ held the number 1 spot on Steam for up to a week.
SpectralMeat wrote on Feb 12, 2013, 20:16:So people made this a top selling preordered game on steam? This is a major reason why they keep making them because people keep buying this shit.

Just another example "game" riding the coattails of a beloved movie franchise resulting in a blatant cash grab. As long as people keep buying this shit, they will keep making it. Gearbox, TimeGate Studios, and Sega, you are all disgraceful. It's embarrassing. Don't buy it!
I especially enjoy the interview videos of Randy Pitchford from Gearbox saying how "they are not settling" and are not "milking a franchise." You are a fucking liar Randy Pitchford. Fuck you. I'm I angry? Yes, I liked the Aliens franchise and it's been fucked again. Randy Pitchford you are a hack.
