What a load of nonsense. PC sales are doing fine, just that there is a entire group of new gamers on the pads buying games. This is actually good because once they find out how much better PC games are they will switch.

I would personally easily take a Win8 tablet over an iPad, if they were free. The iPad wouldn't fit in at all with what I use computers for. The Win8 (Pro) tablet would at least have a chance of being useful.

But realistically, I wouldn't spend money on either one.

I don't mind tablets if they are part of the old laptop/notebook like those combo types. I do not want the pure tablets. I will wait since I don't need portability.

I'm no Apple fan, but you gotta be very uninformed to WANT a Win8 tablet over an Ipad...

Forbes tested a group of "information people" (ie, IT workers), and then extrapolated that out across the population. It's the most functionally retarded way of gathering data, but sadly people still seem to think it's somehow logically sound. It's why networks keep cancelling TV shows that everyone loves, because those 25000 Nielsen families, all of whom are by now 78000 years old, don't watch it.

Anyway, Forbes asked a lot of IT people whether they wanted iPads or Windows 8 tablets, and most IT workers, if forced to make that decision, will pick Windows 8 tablets, because at least you can integrate those easily with your existing networks, and there's a chance your software will still work, etc. Whereas if they were to switch everyone to iPads, they'd have to start from scratch.

I'm about as far from an Apple fanboy as you can possibly be, and even I know that there's no way in hell that more people want a Windows 8 tablet over an iPad.

Most people have an older computer that runs well enough for their needs.

Well the jumps in raw processing power for pcs in the past decades brought about the possibility of making powerful processors the size of a toenail. If Nvidia and the likes weren't contenting with that huge market and they came to bring about new relevant innovation to pc gaming that might lead the leap forward. this said devs are already not using the full power of current hardware.. so manufacturers cant really be blamed... Physx anyone? Well it's a period of maturity instead of innovation and it's q good thing for developers. People who dont buy hardware have a better budget and they have more time to produce polished products. Actually the last game that I remember as potentially pushing techmology was Rage as a card with more than 1k in ram was necessary to get a decent resolution ( in bestcase) and it was received by fans with shotgun shells. So I suppose a golden age of innovation cannot be dictated. As far as tablets go I wouldnt buy one to play games.. I have big fingers and they tend to hide what happens on screen. I wouldnt mind a tablet used as a pc peripheral though. Maybe a small one that replaces the numpad on the keyboard. Maybe devs will start implementing secondary touch interfaces for their games but I hope it's not restricted to win8 rigs.

Yeah PC sales are down, but PC's have also plateaued performance wise. We simply aren't getting generational leaps in computing power that necessitate new hardware anymore. A system from 5+ years ago can still handle most tasks. Pads meanwhile ARE getting sizable upgrades that justify purchases, but even those are going to slow down as they've hit the battery wall.

Actually, the problem is that older PCs handled the vast number of things people did just fine, so they see no difference with a new one. You really have to do something that requires power to see the benefit: photoshop, video editing, or Crysis, and that's a minority of people.

The author added up the sales of all Mac and iPads sales, then ignored Dells numbers (in the press release he used) and everyone ignored Compaq, Gateway and at least a few other large manufacturers. Basically he did some weird math and ignored that people keep their PC's longer now.

Uh huh.

Not necessarily. It isn't quite that cut and dry. A Windows tablet(ie. Pro not RT) has its advantages like being able to share the same software across devices. Disadvantages being that those legacy apps aren't tailored for touch. For some companies that wants to move forward but doesn't want to reinvent the wheel its a good compromise.

I don't think any one will want a RT over a ipad or android tablet. Corporate and business users focusing on tablets will definitely want the Windows 8 Pro tablets to run their current software not available yet on other platforms. As far as consumers go they probably won't bother with either as it isn't really targeted towards them.

Since tablet/pad devices are going through so many changes and upgrades right now I've decided to wait a while. The longer I wait the better and cheaper they get. In the mean time my smart phone does everything a tablet does and my gaming PC takes care of everything else.

Most people have an older computer that runs well enough for their needs. Tablets are still relatively new to the market and people are still buying them for the first time.

Once people realize that they can do everything they want from an outdated model of tablet is when the sales are going to level off. I pretty sure that is going to happen sooner rather than later with Apple releasing a new iPad model every 6-8months.

Thos report is distortion. Workers mostly use Windows, and all people are now offered is Windows 8, so they thus "want" it.

What they don't realize is people don't like 8, so perversely they are touting as pent up desire a practical and forced, reluctant choice.

Given the poor battery life, usability and other major concerns noted in most Surface Pro reviews I read, that ain't happenin.

200 Million Workers Want Windows 8 Tablets, Not iPads
