Your post had me so confused. Timestamp, words that weren't mine, phrases that I'd never use... I had no clue what was going on.

Definitely NOT me. Second hand sales in the US are huge business, I do think they're damaging to the industry but think the battle is more an emotional one than a rational one, definitely don't find anything anyone is doing to be a shining beacon of light (except maybe FTL, that was absolutely a shining beacon of light), etc.

People will make a big deal out of this but second hand sales in the USA are tiny so it's just the reduction of a small vampiric market that is sucking the industry dry. Microsoft is a market leader and deserves every penny it can earn from these little fleas.

The next Microsoft console will be a shining beacon of light in this downward trending industry and lead us all to the promised land. All praise Ballmer.

Nice troll.

(Please tell me you were trolling...)

I can understand required an internet connection for initial setup and account login, but it better not be required just to play a game.

They should call it the Diablo-Box.

SimCity-Box?

It'll be awesome when you can't play a single game on your console because your internet happens to be down.

Oh well, if true, it thrashes what little interest I had in another MS console. Let's hope Sony is a bit smarter than this.

Well yeah, when you provide a product that has less features than the previous iterations one would think it would sell less.

My guess is to activate a game.

But who knows?

The article opens up though with "constant inet connection". LOL if true.

"Microsoft’s next Xbox will require a constant internet connection to work, according to a report."

That makes Sim City a pimple on the XBox's ass. I have a hard time believing this, but I suppose it could be true. My first guess though is that this was posted to generate site hits.

Link is down.

Try this one

And yeah looking at the article it seems like they're trying to stop all second hand sales, haha wow. I hope for their sake that's not true.

Ads in menus... I can probably deal with, although I wouldn't like it.

The number of ads just keeps going up, it never decreases. I would expect to see them crop up everywhere in the interface. I'm not a big fan of ads in the first place but I'm especially annoyed at how the value proposition of Live keeps going down but the number of ads keeps going up. Like I said I wouldn't be shocked if they tried to force Gold subs on everyone too.

Forced Xbox Live subscription to use something like a Netflix app... then they can fuck off.

I was about to say I'd be surprised, but I guess that, given that wifi is built in, requiring an internet connection isn't really a huge leap. While an enormous amount of 360s aren't hooked up to the internet, the bulk of those aren't because internet isn't available in that house and more that it isn't available in that room.

Plus, if you don't have an internet connection you really miss most of what the Xbox has become. You're still using blades. Say what you will about the new interface (I've spent significantly more time reading Verno bitch about the ads than actually looking at any ads, but I also mostly just turn the system on and hit A to launch a game and spend little time in the menus), but man, those blades are so much worse than what we have now.

Which is expected - they were designed for SD TVs.

Report: Next Xbox will require Internet connection.

Of course, its the Adbox. Given Microsofts failures to permanently defeat piracy efforts, I think this is an obvious way for them to combat that and probably force Live subscriptions on people. I wouldn't be surprised if Silver was simply gone, Microsoft is totally ruthless and shameless about monetizing the Adbox.

Edit: oh and rentals might be in deep shit too.

Project Gotham 5 in development for Xbox 720 launch – rumour.

It’s a team founded by ex-Criterion and Bizarre Creations staff, so they certainly do know their racing games.

Hmmmm...tempting, if true.
