I thought of that. I just don't think you'll have the means in a small ship like the one Clarke and Ellie escaped in. And yes, she somehow got her eye back between that escape and the crash on Tau [something]. I don't know if you've been under a preview embargo but (spoiler text) the game doesn't take place immediately after DS2, and yes, she got a bionic eye or something. |

Yeah, the shift away from solo-horror/survival is probably going to turn out to be a major negative in DS3 also. I do love me some good coop though. Waiting for reviews/major price drops for this game at the very least.

The total lack of isolation and tension in Dead Space 3 is a much bigger problem than the microtransactions IMHO but I do agree with you that it's an issue. In general EA has mandated that all future games must have microtransactions, seasons pass and multiplayer so that totally changes design aspects for some types of games. Dead Space started off as a quasi action/survival game, leaning more on the former than the latter but nowadays it is an outright bro action game with some light horror elements. It is an extremely conflicted game where you can tell the mandate from high up to sell at least X million units or lose your jobs heavily influenced the end product.
Publishers like EA need to figure out how to make profitable products at all ranges, they have been using the Hollywood model for too long. It's especially annoying because the back office people are often unaffected (HR, marketing, etc) while the actual production and design people get to go jobless. |

Origin isn't much of a problem for me, I have it with BF3 and it's about as annoying as Steam. Which IS annoying, but tolerable.
The problem with Dead Space 3 which seems to not have been mentioned in this thread is the Microtransactions in the game.
Sure, you can say you can avoid using them, and most gamers probably will. However the drop rates on the "resources" they've talked about so far will most likely be way down, to encourage people buying Resource and weapon packs from EA, ala Diablo 3 and the RMAH.
It's a shame, I loved Dead Space 1 and 2, and was looking forward to DS3 until this recent nonsense. Hopefully DS3 is playable without massive grinding without microtransactions, I'll be avoiding this game until it's like 5 bucks or so, if ever.
Then of course there is the Day 1/Shortly after Release DLC... |

Most of the time the piracy excuse is pure bs. Please, everyone, I beg.. listen to my advice:
DON'T FEED THE TROLLS It's not like I wanted to, nor I want to defend piracy... but in my recent case pirates won. I am playing DS2, which I purchased as a retail copy a couple months ago, I unsealed it, and added the cdkey successfully to Origin. Last weekend I downloaded it from there, fired it up, and the online activation poped in (really?! the Origin version? ok, nvm), I copied/pasted the cdkey from Origin several times, and guess what? "Invalid serial number", copied it from the retail box "Invalid serial number"... sent a ticket to EA, got automated response telling me to call them by phone. Looked for a crack, happily playing since then. Quite ironic, and it's not the first time I have to do it to be able to play a legit copy...
Well, it has nothing to do with the fact I was stating above, but adds... Steam is doing a good job fighting pre-launch piracy... And developers should stfu and try with decent copy protection before saying bs about PC, I don't know about now, but last month there wasn't a 100% working crack for Football Manager 2013.

I loved the first two even though I didn't like the overall direction of the second. Less claustrophobic setting. They should really have kept it in space. An ice planet seems like a real B-grade Saturday morning Syfy channel turn.
I might wait for a sale before I try 3. Sad really.

Liked the first, the second one not so much. From what I hear, the latest installment features a near-constant barrage of cheap scares, with monsters popping out of closets/vents/the ground/whatever is at hand. For that alone, I'm going to pass on the SP. Gets old so, so fast.
Will probably pick it up for the co-op, eventually. |

I loved the first and the second. Looking forward to the 8th of feb, when my preorder arrives.
Nothing wrong with Origin, either. Not one thing I can think of. Quit bitching.
Preordered 2. One for me and one for my cousin. He'll be Carver, I'll be Clarke. We're only going to play together. Last week I finished Dead Space 2 again and I realized how terribly uncomfortable it was when you got into a situation where enemies kept spawning for a certain amount of time. It put a smile on my face, thinking: But in co-op, this would be nothing short but FANTASTIC.
Can't wait!
I saw in a trailer that Ellie has her right eye again. That's just a retarded lack of detail which I find unfathomable. |
