Creston They got nothing on RAGE yeah, just look at Rage's amazing textures: woooow No place in RAGE looks that bad with high detail settings on. That is Low res settings, obviously You are wrong. This is at max details. I've seen it myself. Look at the gun texture, flawless. World textures, bad up close. Some textures, like clutter, are horrible up close. This is a MAJOR issue in the game. I'm not even talking about the worst texture pop-in I've ever seen. Just start up the game. In the starting area, the general store, look around, horrible textures everywhere. Enough with it already, rage looks good. If you like to stare to the walls and touch them with your nose in your games, then you're doing it wrong. |

| I still really like how, bad texture quality aside, the RAGE method made all of the details everywhere feel unique. Brilliant idea, horrible execution. And probably 5 years too soon. |

No, max details would have detail textures option from the 1.2 patch enabled, the effects of which can be seen in these mouseover examples. Granted, I don't really care for the effect myself, but that is max details. Also, as long as you have a clean running computer and keep the settings in line with your hardware's capabilities, you won't get any notable pop-in.
That said, while the skies in Rage are very pretty in screenshots they are utterly lifeless static skyboxes, while that REDengine3 shot is is almost surely using a fully dynamic sky as that's what CD Project has always done. Ok, that effect is max details. The effect is literally a sharpen photoshop filter and a grain filter. It in no way improves the texture resolution or quality. I personally think it looks like shit and is a slap in the face to consumers. The link you posted has great examples of terrible textures.
Another high point of Rage is the grass models. It's literally just one always facing sprite. It also looks like it was made in 5 seconds. Straight lines with a brush.
About texture pop in, I get it, regardless of the settings. That was on my previous computer that now has HDD problems, but regardless, it ran every other game fine... |

"I think I just came." was shamefully the first thing I felt like typing while looking at the screenshot. I never said that. I always thought people that did were disgusting children who only just started growing pubic hair.
But that screenshot. Those clouds. The mood. It's.... I hope I'll dream about it tonight... |

CD Projekt has traditionally put out the PC version first and then works on squeezing the game into a console. That would be as presumptuous as assuming what The Witcher 2 looked like on PC was going to be how it was going to look on consoles. |

The technology uses high-dynamic-range rendering with 64-bit precision that ensures 64-bit only? Finally someone made the step! Me likey That's actually not referring to "64-bit" in the sense that you're reading it. This is more along the lines of using 64-bit quantities when calculating what color a pixel ought to be.
