I wonder how many gamers even recognize that, though. My buddy had so much trouble with MW2/3. I kept telling him it was infinite respawns and he just needed to stop shooting and run - that the hardest places aren't about skill but about a) predicting the next checkpoint location and b) getting lucky and not being killed before you get there, running the whole time. He never really picked that up. Maybe other people don't, either. This is basically why I regard the COD (all of them) SP's as total abominations. I have no clue why any game designer would put these segments into the map but they are there and hundreds of them. Places where if you wait and shoot you can end up out of ammo and dead, and never ever get closer to proceeding. What is the point of that? Why put such infinite barriers in a game, to pad? |

He aggressively dislikes the world being a better place. He preferred the 80s, where every movie had a gratuitous (and therefore incredibly boring) sex scene, even if it was a movie with no female characters. I don't get this.. at all. First.. I didn't think the first model was over-the-top looking like a whore. Second.. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the new model of the woman. She fits better in the environment. I always thought there was something.. off.. with the old model.
But they both aren't whorey, and that surprises me pleasantly.
I've no idea why you talk about pussification in a game subject. More often than not I'm fucking grossed out by the way devs portray women as nothing but Fuck Objects. The very first one was kind of whorey.
See here. Ah so that was what the removed text was about... I think the new look suits the character (damsel in distress) far better.... not to mention the time period. And hey, if you are running through a desolate warzone of insane people, I think a buttoned up bust is a must... if she fights with us, she better be dressed for the occasion... |

See here. I dunno, cleavage and tight bodices were commonplace turn of the century. When we had this discussion a few months ago, I posted several photos showing that. Yes, but: 1) Not when saving the world 2) Not with fake eyelashes 3) The bob haircut came much later. See: Bernice Bobs Her Hair |

I'm still confused as to how this plays into Bioshock, is this some sort of predecessor to the underwater city? Or are they just trying to leverage the name familiarity? Other than the name and a few recurring themes, I don't think they're related in any way.

All I remeber is some female group that was griping about it, and at the time there was no response from Irrational Games, so I figured that they ignored the "noise".
Then suddenly the character is shown with the alterations, so I figured that they caved in.

In the videogame industry people aren't exactly shy about having chicks with knockers that are larger than their heads hanging out of their shirts. Bowing to the pressure would be keeping it that way. It's more likely someone just said "hey your game looks kinda silly because her boobs are absurd" and they realized the character would just become a sex object, not something the player is meant to feel genuine affection towards for story purposes.

Beamer wrote on Jan 31, 2013, 15:46: I'd rather just point out that it isn't why Levine made the change, and leave it at that. Really? You don't think they bowed to the pressure? No. The initial model was too drastic and looked more like a prostitute than someone that fit their world and someone that's supposed to be your companion (like Alyx.) So they changed her hair and her clothing a bit. The internet flipped out. They bitched that she was less sexy and thought her breasts were smaller.
Levine, who didn't want her to just be a sex object (which makes no sense given the initial design) and was creeped out by this response as a whole, decided he didn't want to please that crowd at all and buttoned her up. Less of a chance of creepy weird Elizabeth fanfic. |
