I agree. I LOVED that game. I've played them all, from the original POP 1 & 2, to the early 3d one, to the latest ones. POP:SOT was my favorite.
If ubi did one closer to that, used the latest technology (don't nerf for obsolete console graphics) and promised to have no DRM, I'd kickstart another POP game. Unfortunately, I doubt it would happen, both because they'd want way too much money to get started on one, and because I highly doubt they'd commit to any of those things.

Because I don't think more than 5 people remember that movie, including the people in it themselves. It wasn't that bad. It was just an average action movie though. And it didn't have a whole lot to do with the franchise. I agree with the IMDB rating of 6.6 Plus if you compare it to game movies in general, most of them suck so much it was a masterpiece lol. |

a team is willing to do it.
So it's voluntary, that's interesting considering it's Ubisoft. |

Jerykk wrote on Jan 30, 2013, 03:16: What was wrong with the art direction? I thought it was great, almost like a painting. Definitely unique and refreshing. It was completely out of character for the PoP universe and all the textures were horribly washed out and bland, while the black outlines looked terrible. It was certainly different but had nothing on other stylised games like TF2.
Jerykk wrote on Jan 30, 2013, 03:16: As for supernatural "nonsense," not sure what you're on about. ALL of the PoP games have had supernatural elements, including the original PoP where you fought skeletons. It was just so over-the-top. If the game had a different name then nobody would have even spotted that it was supposed to be a PoP game.
Jerykk wrote on Jan 30, 2013, 03:16: In terms of writing, how was PoP 2008's protagonist any more whiny or infantile than the SoT protagonist? The SoT prince wasn't exactly a beacon of maturity and sophistication. PoP 2008 was based entirely around one-liners and childish humour, which was incredibly grating. It was significantly more infantile than the previous games.
Jerykk wrote on Jan 30, 2013, 03:16: The real issues with PoP 2008 were the overly simplified platforming mechanics and the QTE-infested combat. Fix those two issues and you have a great game. You can have that game but just keep it away from the Prince Of Persia franchise. |

| I really enjoyed the 2008 PoP. I even spent the time to find every seed in the game, just because I enjoyed the mechanics so much. I'm reassured to know I'm not the only one that didn't think it was as terrible as many have said. |

Prince Of Persia 2008 was train wreck - terrible art direction; whiny annoying American prince; supernatural nonsense; infantile humour, etc. It had absolutely nothing to do with the Prince Of Persia brand. What was wrong with the art direction? I thought it was great, almost like a painting. Definitely unique and refreshing. Forgotten Sands returned to the SoT art style but felt bland and lifeless in comparison.
As for supernatural "nonsense," not sure what you're on about. ALL of the PoP games have had supernatural elements, including the original PoP where you fought skeletons. The SoT trilogy had plenty of supernatural stuff as well. Time travel, evil sand that turns everything into monsters, ethereal beings that hunt down time travelers, physically manifested alternate personalities, etc.
In terms of writing, how was PoP 2008's protagonist any more whiny or infantile than the SoT protagonist? The SoT prince wasn't exactly a beacon of maturity and sophistication.

The Forgotten Sands was alright but obviously not enough to keep the franchise alive.
I can't say I'm surprised to see the franchise on hiatus but it's probably for the best. |

I bought Prince of Persia 2008 because of the art style, thought it looked interesting. Never tried a "PoP" game before, only gave the game a quick go before backing up to play another day. Looks like they are giving me time to catch up |

That would be the best of both worlds, really. Forgotten Sands was aptly named and didn't really do anything interesting aside from pausing time to solidify water, which wasn't really taken advantage of until the end of the game. I wasn't interested in Emo Prince. 2008 brought me back to the series, had a great prince, a great concept with the ICO style cooperation between him and the girl. Threw that all out to go back to the sands of time prince with an even more emo game, lost my interest in the series again.
2008 PoP deserves a proper sequel. |

OT, but I saw this on the Twitster. Brian Reynolds has left Zynga!
I hereby order Firaxis to hire him back, and fund Alpha Centauri II. |
