maybe you went too far in what you were expecting? that seems much more likely.. considering you are the only one who can calibrate your own expectations

ive played the game for about 6 hours total.. probably play for about 10 more, tops.. then im done with it, but its pretty fun for now

I think people went too far in hyping this, I was expecting a lot more based on all of the praise I've been reading for the past year. It's a fun little game with some new ideas but I'm already getting a bit bored of the gameplay, maybe I need to try a new class. What do higher difficulties offer in terms of new content? My group is already almost done with the game's beta content on Normal and we're not exactly trailblazers. The limited respec system seems a bit punishing if you hit a build wall in higher difficulties you basically just reroll, even Diablo 2 has respecs now. Titan Quest had a good hybrid model, you could respec but it was incredibly expensive so you took your choices seriously.

PoE is the closest thing to a Diablo 1/2

And yet it's inferior to both in virtually every aspect.

If that's your take on it, that's fine, but obviously I disagree with you. That's not to say there's nothing I liked more about D1/2, because there were things they did better. But PoE has done a lot of things right, and definitely some I would say are superior to what D1/2 had to offer.

I love these kinds of games, but so far, this game just bores me out.. So dull, the tough parts are just slam in your face a big pack of mobs.. and the drops are so obvious.. your not going to get anything but the linear path'd out boss loot drops..

yeh i played a few hours.. cant say i will be playing for months or whatever but im still going back for a bit at least - which is something i cant say for all the others like d3 and torchlight etc

its definitely like a sequel to diablo 2.. very strong vibe from that whole era - which is odd considering all the other modern twists going on

it reminded me of how Diablo is like the king of grinding - in my memory it seems like no game quite like that existed until it came out, except Gauntlet but that was different because there was no stat/skill/item progression.. and then i remembered that the whole MMORPG scene was just starting out right at that same time.. also seriously "grindy"

thats my problem with both of those genres, the grinding - which is, essentially the entire game.. there is no other point to it, and in fact everything else is minimized and streamlined to enable more grinding

it gives me a strangely unpleasant feeling to play these games for a long period of time... and i look at minecraft in the same way

its weird because i do realize that all video games are essentially "distractions" or "time sinks" or whatever, but something about these grinding-type games makes it seem like they have distilled the very essence of wasting time - like making crack, rather than simple cocaine... and imo the fun somehow gets removed or diminished in that process

I disagree. PoE is the closest thing to a Diablo 1/2 sequel that I've seen so far. Definitely closer in spirit than T2 or D3. I really like the fact they've done away with gold, although my "pick up everything I see" instinct keeps fighting with my "I can't sell them for anything" intellect.

Now that I've got a better handle on the skill tree, I deleted my first char, and have restarted a new one. As suspected, there was no way to save my original char with the relative mess I'd made of the points I'd put in.

My biggest annoyance with the game at this point is global chat. I know I can turn it off, but I like reading about discussions about the actual game (which sometimes happens). I don't like reading about politics, religion, people who think "alt-f4" is a clever response to questions, etc. Hopefully they'll do some sort of off-topic channel for all the idiots to use, and have global for people actually involved in the game.

Overall, this is absolutely a fun game.

im usually iffy about ARPGs.. but something about this one seems intriguing.. the skill tree is a big part of that

gonna try this out for a while

I'm really about to eat my hat in regards to what I said because now that I have my focus set on a specific build, wow, what a world of difference thanks to the passive skills and spell customization.

I'm currently rocking a Wand Templar and basically steam rolling everything by dropping Fire Trap and spamming Firestorm since my mana regen is through the roof. AOE non-stop like a boss.

On top of that, one of the first rare items I found had PERFECT itemization for my hybrid build, right down to + mana and + energy shield. Guitarist

It's going to be a long but awesome night.

PoE is sick good. So far all the people I'd NOT wanna see in my PoE community form BN have stated they aren't playing...

Unfortunately, I think they're bullshitting once again and stealth playing...

I enjoyed it for a few hours, and now with the last player wipe, they said they won't do that again, so I reinstalled on my new rig today.

What I really like about it is the passive skill system tree which looks more like a Los Angeles road map. That thing is god damn huge and would really open the door to tons of customization if you manage to stick around for a while.

Otherwise, it's an okay game. It's not going to shake the ARPG industry to its foundations as it's not perfect but you can't really complain given the fact that it's F2P and the micro-transactions are for aesthetics only.

POE is ok so far but it's no Diablo - and I obviously mean 1/2 by that. And their microtransaction prices are fucking insane. They won't make a dime with those prices.
