Dead Space 3: PC Enhancements? No. Microtransactions? Yes.

A new video interview on games.on.net talks with producer Shereif Fattouh about Dead Space 3, Visceral Games' upcoming survival shooter sequel. The focus of their conversation is the addition of co-op mode to the sequel, which they describe as being like watching a scary movie with a friend. They also highlight the response they got when asking if the Windows edition of the game will have any features that take advantage of a PC's more powerful hardware. They were told this will be a straight port with no support for DirectX 11, no higher resolution textures, and no support for graphics features not found on the console editions. In other Dead Space 3 news, OXM has word from developer Visceral that the game will include microtransactions, though they stress that letting the game chip away at your wallet is optional. Here's a bit:

"You can absolutely choose to ignore the in game micro-transactions," associate producer Yara Khoury told OXM in an interview, following a two-hour hands-on. "I think it's made for people who aren't necessarily as savvy as others with exploration, or maybe they just don't want to spend the time to go and find resources, and they want to maybe upgrade faster."

You'll only be able to buy certain weapons at certain times, however. "Know that we are creating progression in terms of weapon crafting by only making available some weapon parts as you progress through the game. So it's not like 'oh I'm going to spend money now and I can be the most powerful player in Chapter 1.' "And another thing that is important to know is that you can buy things in the marketplace with in-game currency," Khoury continued. "Things that your scavenger bot gets you. So you don't have to spend dollars if you're a hardcore player and put a lot of hours in - you're going to be rewarded for that."

no rush

by that time there will be no players online to play co-op with... happens to alot of games like this when you buy them a year later..

People don't really like Activision either, they only have a few franchises to fuck up unlike EA who bought half the industry. Take-Two is not even on the same level as EA or Activision. See picture.

I'm pretty sure I could just finish the game with the materials/guns available in the first play through, so it's fine for me. The material/crafting system actually could would might add some good replay value, but that's it for the most people. After all it's a single player roller coaster ride, and not Diablo or some MMO; enemies won't drop some random purple Swords, there's no one to show off your gear (well, except your regular coop buddies), no PvPs that you can utilize those gears you crafted...
Seriously, who wants to spend real money to gear up for a single player action game like this?

it's amazing to me that there's such a hate for EA here though, every publisher is on the DLC/microtransaction bandwagon at this point. It's like you guys think it's only EA who does this sort of thing.

You spam this crap in every thread, get over it. People in general don't like EA, they were voted the worst company in America last year. It's not just this site and EA gives people a lot of good reasons to dislike them. EA doesn't just monetize something, they crank that shit up past the point of reasonable. So they are different from other companies and that's ignoring their reputation of running purchased entities and franchises into the ground.

What I hear in my head when I read this sort if thing is "Please don't buy our game at or near full price. Wait until it's 5 bucks on a sale in a year". To which I pleasantly reply, "Okay!"

I never touched D3 nor any Ubicrap or other shitty DRM games nor any EA games that really fuck consumer rights up. I stick to my word on these forums.

They had a shopping mall level in the 2nd one.

So did System Shock 2, and that's widely considered a classic.
It inclusion is more logical in Dead Space 2 because, while the Von Braun from System Shock was an exploration vessel the base on Titan was an off-world colony.

I rather enjoyed Dead Space 2 myself (far more than I did the original game) and am likely to buy the sequel. On the other hand, I have no intention of paying them through their "microtransactions". If this experiment with microtransactions makes the game less playable, then I'll reconsider purchasing the inevitable sequel. But right now I'm more worried about how the drop-in/-out co-op is going to affect the gameplay than some DLC packages.

This site is mostly filled with cranky older PC gamers and EA have given them a ton of reasons to be pissed over the years.

Dead Space 2 looked and played amazing on PC despite being a simple port, so that's not really a scary piece of news to me.

The other thing really depends on if they made it a grind to get people to pay. If so it's horrible and something I cannot support, if not then it's basically the same cheat code sales thing EA has been doing since the 360 came out and I can ignore it.

Reviews will tell.

EA's been doing this with sports titles forever already in the line of buying boosts for say a a defenseman's blocking skill or whatever in NHL for example.

Believe it or not, while there may have been some overlap, generally speaking, those of us who complained about Diablo 3 (pre-release of course) didn't end up buying it. It's important to note that when you see a group of people complaining before a release, and you see a group of people complaining after a release, it doesn't automatically follow that the same people are in both groups.

It's actually a fairly common problem around here, where people claim that everyone is so negative all the time, etc. But what they fail to note is that people who are negative about one game tend to be positive about another. It's a different person who's negative about the second game. Which only makes sense as people have different tastes. Lumping everyone together as being negative about all games is (to misuse the analogy) missing the trees for the forest.

@Dades:

Nope, I never bought Diablo 3. I also have never installed Origin or bought an EA game since it was a required component to play an EA game. If EA started giving away games on Origin (like they did in that snafu a while back) I still wouldn't install it.

I didn't, did you? Played it at friends and family, glad I didnt because it seems like I made the right decision with all of the buyer remorse. This game doesn't have the wide spread appeal of a blizzard game so it wont get 8 million casual sales so I wouldn't worry about it.
