I'm pretty sure I could just finish the game with the materials/guns available in the first play through, so it's fine for me. The material/crafting system actually could would might add some good replay value, but that's it for the most people. After all it's a single player roller coaster ride, and not Diablo or some MMO; enemies won't drop some random purple Swords, there's no one to show off your gear (well, except your regular coop buddies), no PvPs that you can utilize those gears you crafted... Seriously, who wants to spend real money to gear up for a single player action game like this? |

They had a shopping mall level in the 2nd one. So did System Shock 2, and that's widely considered a classic. It inclusion is more logical in Dead Space 2 because, while the Von Braun from System Shock was an exploration vessel the base on Titan was an off-world colony.
I rather enjoyed Dead Space 2 myself (far more than I did the original game) and am likely to buy the sequel. On the other hand, I have no intention of paying them through their "microtransactions". If this experiment with microtransactions makes the game less playable, then I'll reconsider purchasing the inevitable sequel. But right now I'm more worried about how the drop-in/-out co-op is going to affect the gameplay than some DLC packages.

The other thing really depends on if they made it a grind to get people to pay. If so it's horrible and something I cannot support, if not then it's basically the same cheat code sales thing EA has been doing since the 360 came out and I can ignore it.
Reviews will tell. EA's been doing this with sports titles forever already in the line of buying boosts for say a a defenseman's blocking skill or whatever in NHL for example.

Shok wrote on Jan 22, 2013, 16:42: I'm doubtful though after Diablo 3 and how everyone complained and bought it anyway. Believe it or not, while there may have been some overlap, generally speaking, those of us who complained about Diablo 3 (pre-release of course) didn't end up buying it. It's important to note that when you see a group of people complaining before a release, and you see a group of people complaining after a release, it doesn't automatically follow that the same people are in both groups.
It's actually a fairly common problem around here, where people claim that everyone is so negative all the time, etc. But what they fail to note is that people who are negative about one game tend to be positive about another. It's a different person who's negative about the second game. Which only makes sense as people have different tastes. Lumping everyone together as being negative about all games is (to misuse the analogy) missing the trees for the forest. |

@Dades:
Nope, I never bought Diablo 3. I also have never installed Origin or bought an EA game since it was a required component to play an EA game. If EA started giving away games on Origin (like they did in that snafu a while back) I still wouldn't install it. |

Played it at friends and family, glad I didnt because it seems like I made the right decision with all of the buyer remorse. This game doesn't have the wide spread appeal of a blizzard game so it wont get 8 million casual sales so I wouldn't worry about it.
