Blizzard did this with the diablo 3 beta, restricting you to just a fraction of Act I. That's because they didn't want anyone to really know how fucking awful the game was. |

Do they really expect that to be enough time to accomplish anything, let alone notice any bugs? They don't want people to be able to do everything, its like restricting you to the first 5 of 100 levels in a game. So basically you can play as much as you want starting dozens of new cities, but after playing a city for an hour, it will lock you out of it. You can then start a new city and apply what you learned to the new one.

can't say i'll miss ya! i've already pre ordered 2 copies of the deluxe edition, playing sims3 and simcity 4 now just to calm my nerves...
gonna be so great! Good for ya, the rest of us who have actual taste don't give a fuck about your fanboi rantings though.
And good luck playing with a minimal community on a forced multiplayer game. I'm sure you'll keep saying you won't miss us over and over again. If he was a shill he'd be subtler.
Slick, it's fine to look forward to a game (DRM aside, I am) but you are mistaking optimism for fact. I think the agents system could lead to a more complicated, deeper simulation and I'm happy to trade city size for that, for example. However, I'm not taking the possible depth as anything more than hope until I get my hands on it. |

Q: What’s in the beta?
A: Here’s the answer straight from Lead Producer Kip Katsarelis: The Closed Beta is an important step for us as we approach our launch date for SimCity. We’ve crafted a one hour replayable experience that will let you enjoy the magic of the game and allow us to test critical features. Everyone will go through our “Getting Started Scenario”, which takes you through the basics of how to play the game and gives you a sneak peak at some late game content. After that, you’re free to start your own city and play for one hour. We’ve given you all the tools to build up a medium density city, given access to the Casino Big Business, all of the basic services, loads of public transportation options, and several options on how you can power your city. You can start up as many cities as you like during the 3 Day event. We encourage you to try to build different types of cities, explore the leaderboards and try to beat the Global Challenge! By putting these features through a rigorous test, you’re doing us a huge service. Your feedback will go directly to the Development Team and make an impact on future updates. By playing the game you’ll be testing our online servers, helping ensure a smooth launch. |

Where are you guys getting this info about a 1 hour beta? That sounds... absurd.
Also: Running from 5pm GMT on January 25 until 8am GMT on January 28, the SimCity beta [...] |

I know betas have been trending towards public demos for awhile now, but this seems to be even more blatant than normal. |

I seriously hope people starts speaking with there wallet rather than words. People always buy into the hype and accept DRM and the price they are asking for new games but this will properly new happen since people nowadays have no willpower or are so careless about the product they are buying. |

eRe4s3r wrote on Jan 18, 2013, 23:10: same here, but it opened a popup which then redirected to the previous tab and closed the popup.. wtf? I think most cross-site scripting protections would block this even if it was legit. I had 6 tabs open and that was a pretty weird login... I basically couldn't even tell where it logged me in among the 6 tabs... weird ;/ It also wants an origin account. If you haven't migrated an EA account to an origin with origin ID you will have to do that first. I had one migrated a while back, but it wanted extra stuff, like email verification and adding a security question.
Also, if you try the beta signup a second time in chrome after the weirdness of closing the popup it goes through. If it works, you will see a EULA followed by a survey. |

SWTOR. No, there were no restrictions at all in the SWTOR beta. No idea what you are talking about.
Anyways I am not going to bother, there are too many changes I dislike, especially the online aspect. I don't want to share my cities with other people, why would I want to do that? |

I preordered this before I realised it was always online. I've submitted a genuine beta application since I'm committed anyway but if there's any network issues I will be sure to mention them! I'm sure I'll just be told that it's a beta optimisation thing that will be ironed out
SC4 medium is the only size I've seen mentioned. |

| The difference is there was still hope before D3 released that it would be salvageable. SimCity at this point is a complete write off. |

Apparently they've now reduced even further the maximum size of a city. They say it's about the size of a medium city in Sc4.
This is going to be a bigger disappointment than D3 was. |
