The previous games had QTEs as well, so it's to be expected. I'm not a great fan of them, as I feel they break immersion, but I'm not hugely bothered by them either. Saying that, I can understand why people object to them. The issue here is that the QTEs are replacing the biggest thing that the series was once known for: platforming. Lara's traversal move set has been significantly reduced. No more player-controlled wall-running, balancing, swinging, rappelling, rolling, etc. Now everything is done automatically or through QTEs.
Everything I've seen of the new TR reminds me of Uncharted. Rudimentary platforming and puzzle-solving, heavy focus on combat, cinematics and set-pieces. Basically, the exact opposite of what I look for in a TR game (or any game, really). |

| Before it was called Impulse it was called something like Stardock Central, and GalCiv was the first game I ever downloaded some time around 2003 IIRC. |

What did you do between 2000 and about 2008 when Steam and D2D really picked up, uh, steam? I have all my disks from that era, like Sup Com, Dawn of War, Neverwinter Nights, UT2004, Oblivion, etc. I embraced Steam first, but there was also Stardock Impulse, which gave me Galactic Civilizations (and kept me occupied for a LOOONG time). Supreme Commander and Dawn of War also released on Impulse long before they did so on Steam. I used to love Direct 2 Drive, which is where I bought Oblivion and Fallout 3. Toss in GOG, through which I have accumulated over 350 games and I have been overloaded with digital gaming bliss. I have pretty much thrown my lot in with Steam since, so with the exception of a few outliers (like Starcraft 2 obtained via Bnet) I use them as my gaming platform almost exclusively.
I think I actually bought a retail CD of Guild Wars when it first released so I may have actually bought retail more recently than 2000, but that's the only exception I can think of. |

PC Gamer (so take it for what it's worth) said the first few hours of the game are basically "Watch Lara Get Tortured" porn, and your interactions are limited to "hold forward" and occasionally "press the button that the QTE wants you to press."
Lara will be climbing a cliff, and will slip and scramble for a hand-hold and have to fight to regain her balance, until she finally managed to somehow pull herself up to the top of the cliff, and your interaction throughout all that was to "hold forward."
That's not a game. That's a developer jerking off all over themselves and imagining they're making a movie.
Creston I didn't mind the QTEs in the MW2 single player, but they were an extremely small part of the game. |

Creston Bringo.
Anytime in a game and that happens I get sorta angry, surprisingly its not so bad when its a game mechanic that is non-linear.
In Farcry 3, tapping X to knock off a tiger then hitting Y to cut it is not so bad because it can happen anytime by surprise etc.
Having a set of cutscenes that you control and they only happen ONCE is sorta drab, esp cus its completely linear.
+1 Agree

It's more likely they don't want people to see that the first few hours of the game is "press and hold 'W' to watch the game continue."

I was a huge fan of the previous Tomb Raider games, so I was interested in this from the start. When I saw it offered on GMG for £17.55 / $28 I couldn't resist.
As for physical distribution, it's completely irrelevant in this day and age. And regarding the lack of a demo, obviously that will put some people off but it's not a deal breaker for me - I can usually tell from the preview media whether I'm going to enjoy it and what price I'm willing to pay. I tend to only grab demos for indie games I'm not sure about. |

| I am in favor of abolishing demos, just make games people will want to play. I'll be buying this, Tomb Raider is an integral part of PC Gaming history since the days of Voodoo 3DFX, and though their replayability may suffer, Tomb Raider is one of the few, if any games, that offer good fun sequels. Lara Croft evolves well, she ages like fine wine. |
