I RTFA, heres a quote:

I'm quite hurt personally because anyone can see how similar the words are, and while the average gamer knows the difference individual people don't. I've had family members/close friends mistake the difference and confront me about what they believed was unethical behavior they thought I was making. I really don't think anyone can understand just quite how exasperated that can make you feel when you've gambled everything on something, put your whole self and reputation on the line.

I would feel pretty freaking upset too if random ppl and FAMILY reamed me out for ethics and stuff that had NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH ME.

Well, it's not like anyone has dibs on the zombie apocalypse or anything. You wanted to play in the crowded playground then you have to suck it up when other kids step on your toes.

Says the guy who knows nothing of the situation... Even if all you know is the name, dude, it's obvious they were trying to be a cheap imitation. It's much more than just being in the same genre.
Yeah it's more Copy & Paste rather than simply being inspired by.

"Nobody wants to be nobody in America. Ed is the apotheosis of a prevailing American syndrome. It used to be that someone became famous because they were special. Now people are considered special just for being famous. Fame, itself, is its own virtue.

DayZ creator is angry at War Z.

Is he also mad at MSFT for making their game?

No, he is mad at the situation that has developed around the game and how it affects the perception of his game. He isn't saying that there is anything anyone can do about it or that he is going to go get a therapist to cry to. He is just saying that a game with a similar name and purpose was built up by the media prior to launch and then absolutely slammed by the media immediately after launch, and that he feels like it affects the perception of his game because of things not in his control. The other game compares itself to his game, the media compares the other game to his game....and meanwhile all he can do is work on his game. He even says that he understands that most gamers know the two games are not developed by the same people, but it bothers him that some do or will think less of the genre because of this whole thing. Sounds fair enough to me. Good games can make a genre popular, like Doom or GTA did for their respective categories, and bad games can probably do the same thing. Same with company business practices. A few investment companies get roasted for screwing people over, now investment bankers are the ultimate evil.

Nothing exactly earth shattering in the interview. Seems all rather obvious to me. If I was him I would take every opportunity to separate myself and my game from War Z and it's developers as well.

Had both devs been in the US, I'm pretty sure the Day Z guys would have sued the fucking shit out of the War Z guys. (and won pretty easily.)

There are many media who were saying how great the game was they "played" in pre-alpha, only to say something completely different a few months later about how terrible the game was. I think that's the absolute worst.

Well, it's the gaming media. What did you expect? I think by now that Al Jazeera (sic?) has become a more unbiased source of information than the gaming media.
