You might want to check your facts first. US is #1 for exports by a very small margin, and mid-table for imports. In total it makes up a small portion of overall trade. UK is actually current re-aligning to South America and China.

Kind of discredits the whole argument. No it doesnt. Export has very little to do with it actually. Outsourcing, oil and the financial/banking industry has much more say here than anything else. |

As an outsider to your culture my view of your situation is somewhat objective. But what Im seeing is that the western world is gradually being 'americanised'. This is a trend that was started after WW2 and with the invention of the internet is only accelerating. We are being spoonfed american media culuture on the TV, on the Internet, pretty much everywhere.
So to answer your question, the US as a nation is approaching middle age, but the US as an Empire is in its infancy. Like all Empires its influence is growing and as long as this is the case nothing of significance will change domestically as the native culture will continue to live in relative prosperity compared to other nations.
The Chinese might be a lynchpin though, if somehow they managed to disrupt western economy to such a degree that the US (and other western countries) become destabilized enough that their populations experience significant suffering. In that case anything is possible including significant political change.
*disclaimer* Todays empires are built economically, rather than through military conquest, so even if say Great Britain for example might be an independant country politically speaking its economic ties to the US make it basically a vassal state. |

Nobody says anything on buses that's why people kill themselves Desperation against the world Can't find a way to express themselves Society breeds hate and derision But society is only a mass of people Striving to be god at the expense of others Striving to be better than their next door neighbour
People are scared underneath their silence People are getting more afraid They turn to their leaders for help and guidance And then the system wins again And will carry on winning 'til god knows when Til people start to talk to each other Everyone just like a brother Til the morals and fear that divides us all Are no longer the excuse for the system's rule
