Is it just me or does it seem that most of the greenlighted games are very far away from ever being done. That's if they ever get done. It also seems that some of the games that are done haven't been posted yet.

Is it me or are like 1/3 of the greenlit games obvious jokes/trolls or terrible games that are promoted by the likes of 4chan and reddit because they're so hilariously bad and the joke is getting so many people to play it? Seems like the opposite of what you'd want, imho.

That would be because of the votes. Valve employees got tired of doing the uninteresting and boring work of sorting through the drek in steam applications. They even said about as much in the announcements about greenlight as being why they wanted to have the community do it.

So, if reddit and 4chan can get together enough votes to vote crap up... guess what? Valve will likely approve it.

Similarly, if an unreleased game is getting lots of hype in its 15 mins of fame this week and that gets votes... guess what? Valve will likely approve it.

And who knows, maybe that hype will translate into sales. Social networks are a huge reason why minecraft succeeded.
Valve is certainly willing to experiment and find out, as long as they can wheel their desks away from the approval station.

But hey, at least some good stuff is getting through. Stuff that might not otherwise get approved (or previously was arbitrarily denied by valve).

Where's Dragons Lair?! It was approved in the last batch - chop chop, valve!

Much as valve is often at fault for things on steam, in this case its likely the game company. Especially considering that many of the previous greenlit stuff showed up within days of getting approved. Its probably been a while since the company has had to do much programming on modern systems They basically have to port it to steam. Since its a dvd based game, they may even have to figure out a way to bundle a viewer in it. I'm not up on the current status of it, does it have a standalone windows version avail currently outside of steam? If so, they won't have to do too much if they use steam as a wrapper. But if they want to do any user control that uses steam for authentication, they will have to do at least a little work.

Age of Decadence is the brainchild of V Dweller, from RPG Codex. It's the penultimate Hardcore Choice-is-king RPG. There's a demo out, but be warned: Combat is unforgiving and, most of the time, not even a viable choice.

Yeah, this game has been mentioned on Blues before. I'm really looking forward to it. A game where combat is usually the worst solution? Sign me up.

Good to see some non-crap is getting through, though.

I'm glad for a few games:

Unepic (about time, this was arbitrarily rejected by valve about a year ago). Its completed and frequently updated with new content. http://www.unepicgame.com/en/game.html

War for Overworld (this is basically the next dungeon keeper, was JUST successfully kickstarted complete with the voice actor the original game s used). It can still be backed through paypal though. Also they have a playable showcase demo on their website. https://wftogame.com/

Leisure Suit Larry. Glad to see this one made it. It had a successful kickstarter for a remake (the publisher/rights holder won't fund additional games unless they can show interest with the remake, so thats what the kickstarter was about). Its also supposed to have the original Al Lowe involved.

Dunno about the rest, I'll be taking a look.
