Out of the Blue

How weird is it that I talked about my Bolognese sauce obsession on the same day the BBC posted an article on the cuisine of Bologna with the humorous title Where vegetarianism is an exotic illness? Bologna sounds like my kind of place.

I live in Imola, 25 km from Bologna, and here we just call it ragù not ragu bolognese simply because despite the existence of an official recipie every family has it's own one.
For example in mine i don't use pancetta, too much fat (pancetta literally is "small belly"), i use instead minced pork meat mixed with minced beef meat.
Also tomato sauce is very important but not as a long, very long, cooking time; mine is about 3 hours.

Interesting vent. Personally, I enjoy when the primary source is cited rather than the secondary. I guess my vent on the vent is specifically about when Blue links to a Vimeo that's just an embedded YouTube link. I have no interest in Vimeo and always just click the YouTube icon to watch it on that site, where I can read the notes of whoever put it up and, if needed (and not horrific) the comments from the viewers. Inevitably the Vimeo comments are just "*cats" or "upvoted," with no discussion, and it never carries through the comments of the uploader, which is often needed for context.

You mean videosift.

I do. I had a feeling I was wrong, but eh, begins with a V and does nothing useful.

I like Videosift because it's a community. If you're not part of that community then it's little more than a middleman between you and YouTube (although the top 15 videos can contain some real gems).

Youtube also has lots of regional blocks in place, especially for a German like me So I prefer vimeo links nowadays. Though vimeo's HD looks somehow worse than youtubes...

Yeah, the end of Argo almost ruined it for me.

Almost.

So, I've recently caught up on my film watching.

Argo
Dredd
Seven Psychopaths

I heartily recommend them all. The last one really surprised me because I didn't really have any expectations going in - which is usually best - and it was great little dark comedy. I love Sam Rockwell! Hah!

I thought Urban did a really good Dredd. I'd lurve to see them do another one.

And kudos to Affleck for Argo - though he did pad the hell out of the end of it. Nice period piece that shows Canada rocks!

Argo was fantastic. Looking forward to Dredd, the reviews have been good. It's too bad it didn't make more money (only $13m on a $50m production budget, and that doesn't even include theater cut or advertising). With that kind of box office, I don't think there will be a sequel, sadly.

Argo was good, but they did hollywood up the ending a bit. I believe the article I read said that once they cleared their paperwork to leave, they basically sat in the airport for a few hours, and no one knew the wiser. Still an amazing story, and they got most of it right, including the CIAs original plan for them to ride bicycles for 300 miles to the border.

Need to watch Dredd. I think Skyfall and Cloud Atlas were my favs from last year.

Who knows... the speaking in tongues thing is probably some combination of people believing that because they're so special and unique they can communicate with a spirit world, and the general group stupidity that can happen in an organized religion.

If there was a god - a just one at any rate - Fox would be in porn where she belongs. I don't say that so much because I want to see her in porn as she lacks the talent for anything else.

unrelated but i just saw this crazy shit:

One thing Megan Fox is interested in following is the teachings of her church. It’s a church, she says where she’s seen “crazy things happen” and people be healed. It’s also a place where Fox says she gets the urge to speak in tongues … something she did for the first time at the age of 8, when she began attending a Pentecostal church in her home state of Tennessee.

"It feels like a lot of energy coming through the top of your head – I'm going to sound like such a lunatic – and then your whole body is filled with this electric current. And you just start speaking, but you're not thinking because you have no idea what you're saying. Words are coming out of your mouth, and you can't control it,” the actress explains. “The idea is that it's a language that only God understands. It's the language that's spoken in heaven. It's called 'getting the Holy Ghost.' "

And you thought Megan Fox was just another pretty face …

Epilepsy? ADHD? Tourette? Drugs?

I find lots of plausible explanations literally flowing out of my mouth uncontrollably...none of them are quite so egocentric as "only God understands". If there is a God, I find it hard to believe that he/she/it would be all that interested in what Megan Fox has to say....in any language.

I'm still on about the bolognese sauce posting of yesterday. I will try the recipe sauron posted and let everyone know. This is good timing as I just made my usual ATK quick 30-minute sauce which is good but not great. I want to try a long-cooking sauce that'll blow my socks off.

I know about asmo's tip about adding carrot as I discovered years ago that adding the carrot pulp from a juicer makes for an incredible pizza sauce.
