Cyberpunk 2077 Trailer - New CDP Reveal Next Month?

This trailer offers the promised (sort of) first look at Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED's upcoming sci-fi RPG. On a related note, VG247 has word that freezing frames in the trailer reveals text saying CD Projekt RED is "about to reveal" a "project, which is much closer to being completed" than Cyberpunk 2077. "It will also be a fully open-world game with an intense story," the tease goes on to say, before suggesting this is Witcher-related by adding "You can probably guess the game we’re talking about." Apparently "all will be clear" on February 5th. Finally, CD Projekt RED sends along some further details on the game, introducing the concept of "Braindances," which are "digital recordings of a person’s experience." Here's word on the new cinematic trailer:

“The teaser shows how the Psycho Squad might acquire a new member. The Psycho Squad specializes in combating “psychos” – individuals who overuse implants and substances that boost or otherwise alter the human body. There comes a point when they overdose on these innovations, and their bodies start to rebel against their biological body parts as well as against all things organic around them. Simply put, they start killing people, who they now derisively call 'meatbags.'

When a psycho goes on the rampage, strange things can happen. There’s going to be a lot of carnage, so the psycho might be taken down by regular police, but they’re not always able to get the job done. When things spin out of control, they call in MAX-TAC (Maximum Force Tactical Division), popularly called the 'Psycho Squad'. And these guys are exceptional, these guys are crack troops. The fact that they’re proud of that name tells you a bit about their mindset. They wear a badge with their official emblem on their right sleeve, but their left is reserved for their unofficial Psycho Squad emblem. It’s primitively made and the image itself is on the crude side of things. It’s not unlike a badge special force operators might make and wear to distinguish themselves from the ranks of grunts in any theatre of war," says Adam Badowski, head of CD Projekt RED studio.

The creators promise that “Cyberpunk 2077” will be true to the essence of the cyberpunk genre. Players will be thrown into the dark future of the year 2077 and into a world where advanced technologies have become both the salvation and the curse of humanity. A multi-thread, nonlinear story designed for mature players (a CD Projekt RED trademark) will take place in the sprawling metropolis of Night City and its surroundings. Players will have a chance to freely roam the open-world environment and visit places well known from the pen-and-paper RPG “Cyberpunk 2020®”, including a combat zone completely taken over by gangs, the legendary Afterlife joint and the nostalgic Forlorn Hope.

I love these who ripped off who battles. The young'un don't do any research on google to find out about the genre and how it was created, all they remember what happened during their lifetime, during their gaming years. The veterans come in (and people who know how to search for information) to set them straight.

Here I can search the web for you guys who cannot or are too lazy to:

Well if everyone was interested in everything the world would be a pretty damn boring place ;p

In the end, all we hope for is that it's going to be a good game

Holy shit these comments bore the hell out of me No idea what all of you are talking about! Ghost in the Shell? Cyberpunk? What?

I had no idea this game was going to be based on a book or whatever.

Can't wait to see ingame footage. Wondering if this will be The Witcher meets Deus Ex.. somehow.

Loved the trailer, loved the music - I thought it fit perfectly and really made the trailer come alive.

The official video for that track is kinda freaky: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6nbFZtxAL4

A genre can't be outdated. Only the interpretations of it can be...

Basically I agree, and this is why I was surprised to read that they base their newest Cyberpunk game on Cyberpunk 2020 . The setting is not bad, but it has no relevance to our current times. Robotics are constantly developing, drone warfare, corrupt banks, social developments, new technologies. All that needs to be in cyberpunk stories and extrapolated.

But you have a good point with musicians..

Still for me, cyberpunk is about transhumanism, technology, ethical, political, consumerism, moral and social shifts. That is why I think Cyberpunk 2020 is not cyberpunk. Or at least in my (probably wrong) definition.

This is also why to me, it is never outdated. As long as it takes are current times and extrapolates, a good cyberpunk story will always be relevant.

Marilyn Manson had pretty devoted followings (Manson almost to the point of humor but I digress).

I've heard some of Tori Amos fans are batshit crazy.

I've always said the most dedicated lifer fans are for Rush. I've never met any casual Rush fans, it either people that didn't care for them much (not good or bad, just indifferent), or people that have followed them for decades, and can rail off all sorts of trivia at a moments notice.

Oh, and GitS, GitM and Deus Ex all heavily borrowed from Cyberpunk, not the other way around. Really only Blade Runner outdates Cyberpunk, but then again Cyberpunk borrowed heavily from Blade Runner.

So it's not that hard to see similarities.

Actually, Cyberpunk ripped the flatlined heart out of Neuromancer. GITS, while cool, also owes a lot of it's genetics to Gibson, Stirling, Phillip K Dick, a touch of Heinlien, and a few others who were out there in the late 60's through the early 80's either writing cyberpunk or proto-cyberpunk.

And as for dissing musicians who are charismatic leaders... well... Shit, look at Bieber, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift. And that's just the pop groups. ICP has their juggalos, NIN and Marilyn Manson had pretty devoted followings (Manson almost to the point of humor but I digress). The concept is nothing new. Shit go back and look at the fascist portions of The Wall. Look at John Lennon. Maybe the contrast in Cyberpunk turns up to 11 and reaches elements of silliness, but no more so than the rest of the genre.

Edit: Cyberpunk itself is outdated as a genre. A lot of it's tropes and predictions fizzled, but really that's okay. It's "alternate future" now, on par with fantasy more than predictive sci-fi.

Hehe That's the reason I NEVER read manga. I watch Anime adaptions exactly because, if there is a Manga, I know I would be unhappy with the adaption.

And as mostly anyone who mentions GITS, I usually mean the Stand Alone Complex 1 and 2. I know some people don't like their more focused narrative but as far as Cyberpunk goes, the SAC's are milestones.

Yea Shirow was way ahead of his time. Too bad the movie sucked balls and failed to capture the spirit of the manga. But it did have mood I'll give it that, just souless, funless mood.
Now all shirow does is draw porn which is a damn shame..we need another Appleseed volume.

This is the kinda shit hes been doin the last several years..

I know you are just pointing out the dates.. but Cyberpunk 2013 did not release 1988 in Japanese. And I highly doubt Japanese cared about some obscure cyber punk tabletop from the states during that time. Especially one that painted Japan as the enemy.

This guy here -> http://myanimelist.net/people/2609/Masamune_Shirow was the story writer for the manga. And I highly doubt that in 1989 he googled "Cyberpunk 2013" and ripped it off. (Same for the reverse)

Realistically in the western world, GITS only became generally known 1997 with the Movie and the fansub of it. So you can with some certainity say that both, Cyberpunk 2013 / 2020 and Ghost in the Shell, are unique concepts. In the sense that both were not aware of each other.

Dont give a toss about the book, the visuals are a complete rip off. Its nothing new pretty much every futuristic game has ripped off Alien Blade Runner and GITS the last decade:))

I would think that is 100% intentionally. This pose instantly registered for me as GITS (hence I got a gits vibe). They prolly did that because nearly nobody knows of Cyberpunk 2020.. especially "younger" gamers (born 80ies to 90ies) are much more likely to think GITS when they hear cyberpunk (heck, GITS basically defined cyberpunk for me and is the only reason I love this subgenre)...

Heck, there are many who think GITS (the first movie, and the 2 stand alone complexes) are the best cyberpunk there is. There many for whom cyberpunk is DEFINED by what GITS movie 1 put on the table. They would be insane to make a cyberpunk game trailer and not have some GITS references. ^^

Honestly, I don't think 1080p will even be standard for most next-gen games. The current gen is perfectly capable of running games at 1080p but developers choose to focus on using higher quality assets instead. Hell, many games don't even run at 720p. I suspect next-gen games will be no different, which is fine by me because the PC versions will still get the higher quality assets in addition to higher resolutions, AA and framerate.
I'd be very surprised if 1080p is not the minimum-resolution for next-gen consoles, as it would be the most obvious visual difference from the current-gen. They need it as a selling point. As for current-gen consoles, while there were many high profile games that were sub-720p (GTA4, Halo 3) and still lagged at times, due to optimisations Halo 4 was actually native 720p.

There's no point releasing a new generation of consoles if they're not going to substantially improve the graphics and 720p is one of the biggest fidelity bottlenecks at the moment. You may be right but I hope and suspect you are wrong.

These consoles need to support non-HD tvs, so the minimum will probably be the current minimum. To me running in 1080 is a STRICT minimum though, which is another reason I've been sticking to PC. If these new games don't all support 1080, it'll be ridiculous.

I listen to anything as long as it has a beat.. I won't tell you that I l like all dubsteb because that'd be a lie but there is some stuff that is epic with the right video to cover it. As music it's shit, but as action theme with good cuts it can be epic. Certainly more epic than some dude repeating the same phrase over and over in a wrong tune... I mean, if ye can't sing.. don't sing!
