Cyberpunk 2077 Trailer - New CDP Reveal Next Month?

This trailer offers the promised (sort of) first look at Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED's upcoming sci-fi RPG. On a related note, VG247 has word that freezing frames in the trailer reveals text saying CD Projekt RED is "about to reveal" a "project, which is much closer to being completed" than Cyberpunk 2077. "It will also be a fully open-world game with an intense story," the tease goes on to say, before suggesting this is Witcher-related by adding "You can probably guess the game we’re talking about." Apparently "all will be clear" on February 5th. Finally, CD Projekt RED sends along some further details on the game, introducing the concept of "Braindances," which are "digital recordings of a person’s experience." Here's word on the new cinematic trailer:

“The teaser shows how the Psycho Squad might acquire a new member. The Psycho Squad specializes in combating “psychos” – individuals who overuse implants and substances that boost or otherwise alter the human body. There comes a point when they overdose on these innovations, and their bodies start to rebel against their biological body parts as well as against all things organic around them. Simply put, they start killing people, who they now derisively call 'meatbags.'

When a psycho goes on the rampage, strange things can happen. There’s going to be a lot of carnage, so the psycho might be taken down by regular police, but they’re not always able to get the job done. When things spin out of control, they call in MAX-TAC (Maximum Force Tactical Division), popularly called the 'Psycho Squad'. And these guys are exceptional, these guys are crack troops. The fact that they’re proud of that name tells you a bit about their mindset. They wear a badge with their official emblem on their right sleeve, but their left is reserved for their unofficial Psycho Squad emblem. It’s primitively made and the image itself is on the crude side of things. It’s not unlike a badge special force operators might make and wear to distinguish themselves from the ranks of grunts in any theatre of war," says Adam Badowski, head of CD Projekt RED studio.

The creators promise that “Cyberpunk 2077” will be true to the essence of the cyberpunk genre. Players will be thrown into the dark future of the year 2077 and into a world where advanced technologies have become both the salvation and the curse of humanity. A multi-thread, nonlinear story designed for mature players (a CD Projekt RED trademark) will take place in the sprawling metropolis of Night City and its surroundings. Players will have a chance to freely roam the open-world environment and visit places well known from the pen-and-paper RPG “Cyberpunk 2020®”, including a combat zone completely taken over by gangs, the legendary Afterlife joint and the nostalgic Forlorn Hope.

Looks interesting but obviously not enough to reveal any meaningful info about the game.

I actually liked the music. It went along with the video and wasn't the usual pop song.

As someone who ignored Cyberpunk 2020 completely the trailer had more of a Ghost in the Shell vibe and that's good. Let's just hope they won't spoil that vibe by putting too many 2020 references in there. (Yes yes, you Cyberpunk 2020 fans can now bash me, I never liked the setting, to me it felt OUTDATED (or disjointed from current times?) even when it came out). And of course you may hope they stick to the source. But as Deus EX and Ghost in the Shell showed, good cyberpunk takes our CURRENT situation and extrapolates believably forward. Even today you could play Deus EX and take the sci-fi out, and you end up with believable fictional events that could happen right now. If you (try) that with Cyberpunk 2020 you get hilarious results. Rockers who are charismatic leaders, for example ;p Full machine races... I mean.. please. Transhumanism is about the PROCESS. It's not proper cyberpunk if you put us too far into it. Then it becomes disjointed and has no impact.

Syndicate tried to do this to some extend as well, but boy did they fuck that up in gameplay, but at least the setting was cool.

Anyway, time will tell whether it was a good idea to take Cyberpunk 2020 as inspiration.. Personally, I would have chosen Ghost in the Shell...

Not sure what you got against dubstep.. some of it is great, at least when it is accompanied by visual stuff. This song however, was genuinely bad.

no.. no its not

in fact, dubstep sucks hairy donkey balls

i tell you what - bassnectar and some of those cats are pretty good at making interesting sfx and bizarre modulations, but the music is fucking shit, sorry

they have a subgenre called "brostep" too.. think about that for a minute and tell me you are still down with it

Next-gen consoles definitely aren't going to be as powerful as everyone seems to think. Sony and MS have taken huge losses on this generation's hardware and after seeing the success of the Wii and the growing casual market, they're not going make a prohibitively console again.
I never suggested otherwise. It's certainly not going to be as much of an advance as the current generation was, as it's mainly a bump to support 1080p and alleviate the main bottlenecks (memory, optical capacity, storage, GPU). However, moving up to 1080p and increasing the texture resolution is enough to make a significant difference for multi-platform titles and hopefully tessellation will be easily achievable.

My point was more that it won't be limited by the ultra-shit current gen consoles.

Honestly, I don't think 1080p will even be standard for most next-gen games. The current gen is perfectly capable of running games at 1080p but developers choose to focus on using higher quality assets instead. Hell, many games don't even run at 720p. I suspect next-gen games will be no different, which is fine by me because the PC versions will still get the higher quality assets in addition to higher resolutions, AA and framerate.

Creston

Yeah, you could probably guess from the cleavage, but that trailer is NSFW.

That's a pretty cool world they created. I'd like to see gameplay on that one for sure. CD Projekt has a good track record.

It's actually R Talsorian's Cyberpunk 2020 setting, advanced 50 years. And as an old fan of 2020 (never got to play the original cyberpunk) they've done, art design wise, an incredible job here. The trailer is dripping with references to the game.

I'm looking forward to it. I always preferred Cyberpunk to Shadowrun, even though SR was a lot of fun, CP was more pure sci-fi and early trans-human than SR was.

Oh, and as far as the music, while it was kind of cheesy, Rocker Boys (I kid you not that's what they're called) are a big part of the game. So yeah, cheesy music, but actually highly appropriate in the setting.

I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time, but that doesn't seem to show any actual gameplay; upon a quick search, I couldn't even find any in-game screenshots. Seems to be smoke-and-mirrors here, so I doubt the graphics will be as they portray in the trailer.
It's a teaser trailer, so it's not meant to represent in-game graphics or gameplay. It's designed to show off art-style and design direction, which it does very well. That said, there's nothing in there that's hugely radical and even as a multi-platform title it will be designed with next-gen consoles in mind - the graphics could easily be that quality in-game.

Next-gen consoles definitely aren't going to be as powerful as everyone seems to think. Sony and MS have taken huge losses on this generation's hardware and after seeing the success of the Wii and the growing casual market, they're not going make a prohibitively console again. Next-gen consoles will focus primarily on social features and becoming general entertainment hubs, not just for games but for movies, music, TV shows, etc.

Not sure what to expect from the game, and I really wish it wasn't so far off, but I love the art style and the kinds of tech they're using. Mission accomplished, I have been teased.

Yeah, nice flavour but the song they chose is horrendous. And unlike the Wticher 2 please tell me it'll have a fucking camera zoom function.

Although its not my cup of tea either, they could of done worse and just inserted a random dubstep tune in there.

Would rather see real gameplay footage with HUD and other game workings.

Never bought TW2 due to its console design first stance. Sadly, I'm guessing this will be the same.
