On Standalone DayZ DelayZ

The DayZ Blog has an update on the planned standalone game based on the popular Day Z modification for Arma II, Bohemia Interactive's military first-person shooter. Admitting defeat of the original plan to release the game before the end of 2012, the update discusses what they still have to work on before the game is done, saying they will release a closed test for 500-1000 testers "imminently," noting this "will be focused purely on architecture, not the game design." They say following the test they will reschedule the game's release. Thanks MajorD.

War Z's problems seem to all stem from policies and admins, not the game itself. Sure, some people didn't review it too highly, but that's not the reason for wanting to burn the guy's house down.

If it's just a bad game, then it's just a bad game. If you lie about your bad game and then ban people left and right after taking their money, that's totally different.

Eh, can't fault them for being cautious in that regard, but there is sooooo much more shit that the War Z guys pulled that there has never really been the possibility of that kind of backlash happening here. I much more easily accept the explanation of them wanting to take the time and overhaul core systems (the new inventory sounds great) while they can, rather than just slice the mod out of ARMA 2 and package it on its own to get it done ASAP.

So we've been watching this whole War Z thing and it's, frankly, scaring the shit out of us. I mean we were pretty happy with our game but seeing how the fans of that zombie survival game have basically burned that company to the ground we thought we'd hold our game back a bit and check for a few more bugs... People are serious about their zombie games as you know.
