I've been looking at getting a controller to play some platformer games. I was thinking of getting the Logitech F310. They run about $25. It has a switch to change it between xinput (360) an direct input modes. However the reviews I've seen say the analog sticks have huge dead zones. This probably wouldn't be a problem for me since I'd only be using it for platformer games, but it is a bit of a concern.

I looked on Amazon months ago and I swear the wired controllers were $30, but around xmas they were $32. I decided to wait until after the holidays for the price to return to normal, but now they're $35-40 from 3rd party sellers. I've seen the wireless ones go on sale a lot for less than the wired ones though.

ps. got an overdose of racial slurs from D.U. also, but pretty decent film regardless.

It's not made by Microsoft. It looks the same, but who knows about the quality. Seeing as how it has no reviews, it would seem few people feel comfy in buying one.

Looking around online, the xbox360 controller for PC is $50-60... is it worth it to even buy this game if the controller required to play it is basically the cost of a brand new game? Opinions please. Obviously once I HAD the controller I could consider other consolish games, but still.

Man, I couldn't disagree more. I hate the PS3 controller. Too light, sticks too close together, absolutely horrifically bad shoulder buttons, etc.

You're correct about the d-pad on the 360 being awful, but I rarely use it - only for selecting weapons and it does that fine (well, when going for cardinal directions. Starts getting worse if you're going 8 way.) The newer controller fixes this decently, for additional cost. No issue with me with the sticks, though, nor the buttons, and the shoulder buttons are infinitely better.

The controller rests comfortably on your fingers when they're on the trigger, and in order to do so your fingers go over the top shoulder buttons. You can just nudge your finger to hit them. If you have to move your index finger to hit those, as you do on the PS3, you're holding it wrong.

It always confused me so much that PS3 games have the upper buttons as shoot, rather than the triggers. But the triggers feel so poorly designed, so...
