Dune II Web Revival

Dune 2 Online offers a web-based version of Dune II, the seminal real-time strategy game based on the classic science fiction franchise. As noted on Joystiq, this is an authentic port, which makes it considerably less easy or user friendly than a more modern RTS game. Thanks Prosthetic Knowledge/GameInformer.

I remember spending countless hours playing Dune II back when it first came out. I tried it again years later, but yeah, the interface is painful, and it's been surpassed in gameplay many times over since then. Great game in its time though.

I also have fond memories of Dune and the early C&C games, but yeah... going back and playing them now really shows the limitations of early RTS UIs.

Muad'Dib learned rapidly because his first training was in how to learn. And the first lesson of all was the basic trust that he could learn. It's shocking to find how many people do not believe they can learn, and how many more believe learning to be difficult. Muad'Dib knew that every experience carries its lesson.

Muad'Dib is wise in the ways of the desert. Muad'Dib creates his own water. Muad'Dib hides from the sun and travels in the cool night. Muad'Dib is fruitful and multiplies over the land. Muad'Dib we call 'instructor-of-boys.' That is a powerful base on which to build your life, Paul Muad'Dib, who is Usul among us.

Hmm, I just noticed that I never played Emperor: Battle for Dune... is that worth checking out?
I liked it and Dune 2K. Emperor: Battle for Dune is the same engine as C&C3's (came out before it) IIRC.

Ditto. I tried to replay Dune 2, but geez it was so primitive after being spoiled by C&C and other newer RTS games. How come no cutscenes like the awesome intro(duction)?

Depends on how big a fan you are of the old school Westwood Studios games. It's pretty much like the older C&C games with lots of Dune imagery slathered on it right down to the use of some corny FMV sequences. I liked it a lot. So much so that I never got rid of the CDs even though I haven't played it it years.
