it essentially is double certs. One cert is 250xp and one kill is 100xp with diminishing amounts based upon damage done 'assisting' (25-50 generally). Right now, a kill is 200 xp and ~100 for an assist. So that's a cert point every 1.25 kills right now vs one cert every 2.5 kills. Double certs! So it's a great time for LA like me to get that damned expensive C4!

Frankly I'd love it if they boosted cert gain for 'non-purchasers' as it takes freaking forever to get up to 700 for C4 on a LA, or 1k for a gun that is only a minor variant on the basic one (though enough that they are still very worth while). Right now it's nearly pointless to play 'without' an xp boost. Some folks claim to get 200 certs an hour, but I'd assume that's from medic/AMS drivers or ESF w. rocketpod users. If they are infantry.. than most of us aren't that good. I'm pulling about 25 an hour normally, depending on the action normally. I 'bought' the gun I wanted because I knew I'd never get enough cert points with everything else I felt was 'essential' to an LA.

As to 'most 'must get' class upgrades are cheap', this isn't the case with Light Assault. LA is the only class without an F ability. You know, shield on HA, aoe heal on medics, charge on MAXs. Engineers have tuns of toys so I don't think they have one, but LA doesn't have those extras. And our upgrades are 'not' cheap. Most LA's would tell you the class is not complete without C4. It is a game changer when playing one, and getting two C4 costs 700 certs. That's more than some guns, and there is no way to mitigate that grind without spending $. Its not like it's all-powerful either. Two blocks of C4 can take out a heavy tank, from the back. It can't kill take out a Sunderer unless it's already damaged. Best use is vs Lightnings or Max units, if you can get the drop on them. Oh and did I mention it costs 100 infantry resources per block?

Alternately, Steam is showing it's backup tool is available for the game, 9.8gb. Not sure how that plays with the launcher but Bludd's directions make it seem viable.

In the end its a free massive multiplayer game that looks and plays very well with one microtransaction, that you can buy guns in advance "if you want to", but you can still get then with xp. It looks the biz and plays well, stop moaning.

My only gripe is that you cant download all of it, I have a friend who lives in the sticks out in a rural area and his broadband isnt that fast and I wanted to download it for him.
Copy the big install folder to removable media, let him have it and then if it doesn't work just launching the .exe, go download the ps2 installer and point it to the folder where all the files are - should verify and patch up and good to go

I hate that fucking 'first world problems' meme. Problems are problems and everything is relative. What? Are people not supposed to bitch about anything because they're not starving in some third world shithole? Just because other people around the globe can't get their shit together doesn't mean we should feel bad for them.
Not to undermine your rant or anything, but he actually said "rich people problems". It's a variation on a theme/meme. Just because you have a personal issue with said meme, it doesn't mean he should feel bad about you and not use it. Undermined your rant.

Because its easier to trash shit you have no clue about rather than actually take an hour to read up on how the economy works and pretend to be informed.

I never claimed the game was good or bad. I just said that I don't play FPS games that don't support 3D Vision. For me, and I am talking for myself only, no 3D Vision is a deal breaker. I am sure the game is great, but I have no interest in playing it at its current state.

Much love,

So far the only "must get" skills seem to be pretty cheap in certs (i.e. experience points).

You could spend quite a bit more for tank and gunship/fighter upgrades. The aircraft especially, people specialise in those i.e. spend all their points/real cash there.

For infantry though, you're competitive enough out of the gate. If you get the drop on someone who's maxed out, you're going to win. If you both surprise each other and you've got significantly better aim, you're going to win.

Take the most ostentatiously contentious cert upgrade - health boost. The max health boost you can get, which very few people have yet, is 25% - but, not really. Shields are basically just a regenerating health bar, so total advantage in TTK is actually only about half the health boost. And you need 1211 certs for 25%. For a 15% boost, which will leave you at a net 5% disadvantage or something compared to that rare fully specced guy, it costs 61 certs, which you should get in a single session - in an hour when rolling with a decent squad.

Personally I figured I'd be happy to spend the equivalent £/$ of a new game on this. I've only spent £4, on a 7-day EXP booster since I figured I'd be playing a lot this weekend anyway. I haven't felt the need to buy any items yet and I now have about 600 cert points racked up that I haven't even thought what to spend on.

Admittedly the real-money does not seem very good value as you don't get a lot for the money. That you don't need the items is one thing, but it'd be nice to be buying more choices. I might sink some real money into it if/when they have another 2x or 3x "station cash" sales.

The game has problems but P2W isn't one of them.

If you do play, bear in mind the game is 1000x more fun when you're in a good platoon, using voice comms, waypoints etc. The biggest issue for the game IMHO is that is not reliably available.

I haven't looked at all of them but the paid guns I've looked at aren't necessarily better than what is freely available. They all have some kind of tradeoff just like the free guns. The one assault rifle I did buy is more accurate and reloads faster than the free one, but it has lower capacity and much lower rate of fire. It all boils down to what you prefer in your gun. I value accurate shots and fast reloads over high capacity and a spray-and-pray mentality for most fighting so it made sense for me, but it puts me at a disadvantage in a close-range and target-rich environment - an area where the free gun is a far better option.
Huh? I'm sorry, I was thinking about cake.

earned over 150 certs in a little more than 2 hours of playing today. Double xp is awesome. The game should be 1.5-2x xp compared to the default anyway, as it makes it a ton more fun when youre raking in the loot and doing well. I think they starve players so much not just to entice you to spend money on the game, but also for the absurd amount of longevity they expect out of it (13 years+)

Considering you can play and get those same items, isn't it also 'play to win' as well?

If you like battling uphill in the blinding snow for a few hundred hours to get there, sure, I guess... But their business model is based on virtually nobody doing so. I could see hopping on to play with friends once in a while, but I am not interested in investing serious playtime into this, and certainly not any money.
